The Republican Party needs to stop focusing on single issue voters and wedge issues and concentrate on representing the majority who elected or unelected them. While I have no problem with Obama, the fact that a black man was elected President of the U.S. says something about the magnitude of the mess Republican leadership created.

decades ago britain voted in its first woman P.M.........quite basically putting it we were in the shit.......astronomical inflation,soaring unemployment,wildcat strikes thoughout industry.......britain was in a state of virtual anarchy......this woman wasn't popular at all,she let businesses go under........but what she did do was what i think obama will do.....she talked to other world leaders...she gained us respect,in turn our exports soared to an all time high.....it wasn't pretty at the time but eventually it happened.......she actually made britain great once more.......this scenario is what i think awaits america......his charisma will see him through......it wont be pretty but it will happen,be patient though......its not an overnight thing

Human nature- I think some people needed to be faced with a full blown financial/economic meltdown to get over the fact that the man is black and consider him as an intelligent alternative to current leadership that has clearly failed.

I think there are aspects of the Conservative base that have failed, but comparing McCain to the past 8 years is no better than than saying that Obama was opposed because of his race.

I mean since we are on the topic, he's half caucasian, born in Hawaii, raised for a period in Illinois, went on to go to Harvard, never ran the streets, had to deal with street violence, I mean the only thing about him that isn't upper middle class white is his skin.

If Colin Powell would have ran for public office I would have voted for him in a heartbeat, Condalezza Rice I would run to the polls to vote for.

So let's not accuse the American public of being to racially charged, I mean basically the white midle class in America has hung their heads in shame over a period none of our generations had anything to do with.

If you go back and read a little history about Obama and his run to save urban Illinois, it was actually the older black community that basically snubbed him. They all thought he was doing what he was doing to build a name for himself, not re-build a devastated part of the city.

Personally, I'm happy that a black man has been elected. Maybe the rest of the black community will back off of the race card now and quit blaming my generation for things that happened generations ago. For the love of all things good, skin color doesn't matter!

I'm not suggesting that people who supported McCain or anyone in this forum is racist if that is what you are worried about. But if you don't think race is an issue (for a percentage of people) when it comes to Presidential politics, I invite you to take off the rose colored glasses. Hopefully sooner than later it will become a negliglbe factor in elections.
