I never, well rarely ever, tip less than 15%. Other than that, I just tip what I feel like. Sometimes, if I am paying cash and I don't want to wait for change, I will tell them to keep it all. If all I have is 20's, and the bill is 22, then that can be and 18 dollar tip. It all depends on how I feel that day. IDK, nevermind

A couple restaurants I know of collect the tips and evenly distribute them among the staff, cooks included.

not true. I have done togos at Olive Garden, and casa ole before...the togo person is solely the person in charge of putting the meal together. The cooks put the food in the box, the togo person has to garnish the food, and close the box, and include utensils, and either chips and dip, or breadsticks, salad or soup (depending on which place youre talking about) along with whatever else they requested. It is customary to give tips to togo people.

I asked my wife once while at the pick-up at OutBack Steakhouse about leaving a tip for to-go. The guy heard me ask her and made a point to let me know he makes $3 an hour and works for tips. I thought it was hokey to answer the question for her but after learning that I did leave him a tip.
