omg...

The raw potato works best (sprinkle a little salt on it, and it's quite yummy actually) .. I make Mikey do it all the time .. since he refuses to take his meds like a normal person.

He also drinks the baking soda and water religiously.

I do not recommend baking soda for this. Baking soda has a high sodium content. It is an old fashioned remedy that was used years ago and is now actually considered to be passe for treatment of heartburn. The risk of sodium overdose is not worth it, considering you have no idea what any sort of extra sodium can do to your pregnancy.

Raw apples or raw carrots
1 tablespoonful of brown sugar
peppermint candy
milk
a half dozen raw almonds

I have also heard these to be natural relievers of heartburn

That's not exactly true.
There are Histamine-2 blockers and Histamine-1 blockers.
Histamine-2 blockers are drugs like Zantac and Pepcid, plus a whole lot of others. They are useful for hearburn, GERD and acid reflux.
Histamine-1 blockers are drugs like Benadryl and others that tend to be marketed for allergies.

So Benadryl is NOT recommended for heartburn relief. In any case, NO drug should be taken by a pregnant woman without consulting your doctor first.

It might not be recommended...but it works. ;)

Well I'm not comfortable recommending or endorsing remedies or drugs for unapproved indications. Since this is my field, I felt obligated to give a medical opinion based upon accepted medical practices. What one does outside-the-box is totally at a person's own risk. However, I do not discount the fact that some patients receive benefits by nonconventional means.

It was just an addition to the conversation about home remedies. Although I've never been pregnant, I assumed that Benadryl wasn't on the list of approved medications to take, so I wasn't recommending she take it. I am a trained EMT and we actually discussed this in class. To clarify, we were not TOLD to treat a patient w/ heartburn in that way...we're not even allowed to administer aspirin. :(
