what to wear...?

Jeans would be just freaking fine, ya'll think it's some huge job with massive amounts of responsibility. If she'd just finished college and was trying to start a career, yes, dress up like you would in your Sunday-best I would be arguing for, but it's not necessary for a teenager getting a fast food job.

Well I disagree, she has a massive responsibility, this isn't some franchise restaurant, she said it was a family business - i.e peoples livelyhoods depend on it.
The responsiblity of working for a small business is so much greater because there's no room for mistake, and you have to work so much harder to make it work.

What does working hard after getting the job, have to do with an interview?

I'm telling you guys you're putting too much thought into it. It's fucking fast food restaurant.

Ever heard of the power of first impressions perhaps?

The point is you don't know the manager, he might not care what your dressed as, and he equally might care a lot.

And either way that shouldn't have any bearing on the job. What he's going to look for is her personality, how she carries herself in the interview and how friendly she acts.

How she dresses for an interview is going to have a miniscule effect compared to that.

I'm not disagreeing with you there.

But that's in an ideal world - some people can't get past first visual impressions.

OK GUYS. I used to be a manager, and I interviewed teenagers all the time for lifeguard positions. YES, it is a fucking lifeguard job. NO it DOES NOT leave a good impression when someone comes in wearing ratty shorts or jeans. NICE JEANS...maybe...but it REALLY impresses me when someone comes to interview dressed in an INTERVIEW outfit. It might seem silly, because on the job they will be wearing bathing suits and flip flops, but it shows that they CARE about the job and will treat their responsibilities as they are jsut as important as having a more white collar type job. THAT is the kind of employee employers are looking for. Yeah, it might be fast food. Yeah, they will probably hire you...but you won't knock em out.. they will be very impressed and remember you and get a great impression if you dress nicely. I promise.

Lifeguards have more responsibilities than someone taking food orders. You don't need to knock someone out for a fast food interview. I'm not saying go in there wearing ratted jeans with holes everywhere. Look decent like you care about your appearance. You'll have a job. First impressions last once. Work ethics get you references.
