Last cigarette

As I write this I am lighting up what I hope is my last cigarette - ever.

I saved it especially for this morning, and to be honest I feel fairly confident, my only concern is that maybe after a few drinks I'll start smoking again, and summers coming up so everbody will be out in the pub gardens.... Ah well. Cross that bridge later.

I have to say it tastes good, really good.

Anyway, I'd say wish me luck, but I don't need luck (just a new vice)

I smoked for 20 years. I quit smoking over 2 years ago. I threw everything that had to do with smoking away and have never picked up another cigarette again. And I am happy to be a non smoker now. I do not miss smoking at all.

You can do this. Want it and believe in yourself.

I found the first 3 months to be the most difficult. I would advise you to not drink any alcohol during the first 3 months of your 'quit'. I'd also advise you to join a support group and attach yourself to the positive/confident quitters in the group.

Best wishes to you. You will never regret quitting. Congratulations to the gift you are giving to yourself ... LIFE!

agreed. do not drink if you can help it. It's hard but it kind of goes with the smoking thing, and your resolve will be weakened with alcohol. Also, the first 3 months are definitely the hardest. If you can afford it, go to the dr and get a prescription for Chantix. the one month starter box was all i needed, it was definitely worth the $100. I have saved almost $400 since I quit., which was equal to about 3-4 packs a week. Being pregnant really helps me keep my will strong. Don't let yourself fall for the "just one" trick either. And don't hang around people who smoke around you, for at least 3 months. This is tough, but you can do it!!!

Sending strong vibes of strength. GOOD LUCK to you Zorak.

I quit cold in 2000 and will NEVER put another cig in my mouth. You can't imagine how much not having to be concerned about having those cigs around will make you happy. No more worries about running low our out at the wrong time. More $ in your pocket. Better health (I smoked for over 40 years), better taste and you won't STINK like you have in the past. Cigs smoke makes everything STINK. I gag if I'm standing behind someone in a line now.

AGAIN GOOD LUCK !!!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

Woah Woah, one vice at a time! :D

Thanks for the support everyone, this day is coming to an end and I have been true to my word, earlier I had the attention of my girlfriend so I was... distracted from my cravings, but now it's 21:00 and god I want a cigarette, like push my own mother down the stairs to get one bad!

Couldn't agree more Boombala. There are soooooooooooooo many upsides to not smoking, it is hard to believe that I ever smoked.

Just remember that alcohol will lower your will power to say no. I seriously would reconsider drinking at least for the first 3 months. After that you should be able to cope better. Oh and beer tastes soooooooooooooooo much better without smokes.

If I do start smoking again I know it will be because I'll be pissed off my face.

Does beer taste better without ciggies? I hadn't really noticed, because I pretty much gave them up at the same time when the smoking ban came in over here.

Good going.

You could keep this thread as a sort of diary.

I have drafted help though, a muslim friend of mine (non smoker, non drinker, non sexer) is giving me encouragement, and a fiver if I go a week.
