Adoption

Pete rParka has a rescued greyhound race dog. he would be the one for you to ask and a good source of info about greyhounds.

Yah, that does seems high for a rescue, for sure!!!

I just watched the Oprah show the other day, where she did a special on puppy mills. It's been estimated that 99% of pups in pet stores are from mills.

It's hard to tell what rescue place is authentic....But, there was a man on there who's life is knowing which ones are. He's done a TON of undercover, hidden camera work...Let me see if I can find the links he provided...

think about it........rescuing that dog is a great idea........as for the price, given the exchange rates betwwen us it doesn't seem to bad.........he'll come fully innocculated and neutered......that doesn't come cheap

Good points. I'd like a rescue dog, but I'd rather not go to the pound because you really never know what you're gonna get.

So we'll see. :)

If you can rescue a Grey Hound from a Grey Hound rescue that's your best bet. We adopted our dog from the SPCA and she is wonderful. Best dog I've ever owned. Unfortunately however when we adopted her we had to spend a shit ton of money because just days after bringing her home she became deathly ill with Parvo.

Excellent choice! There are so many of them in need of loving homes and they make great pets. They, contrary to myth, don't need much exercise. The've done all their work on the track and just want a lazy retirement. Here's the website for the place I got mine from with lots of good information about looking after them and some good links

This is my greyhound, Toya, enjoying her retirement.:D

Yeah, I agree about the price. It's still a hell of a lot cheaper here though, the're so desperate for good homes for retired greyhounds. Mine didn't cost a penny, though we donated a bit to keep the good work going. They rely heavily on charity to support them.

true...and they will come trained already which is a plus (dont get one that ISNT house trained, unless its under 6 mos, that would be BAD!)

You'll be hard pressed to get a greyhound which is house trained as most of them have never set foot in a house before. The're quick learners though. I got both my greyhounds house trained within a couple of days.
