I use cash a bit more than debit card I think, but the idea was to use my debit card to save carrying cash.
However, like you Dana, we have that problem here too of cards details being taken when used in supermarkets.
Sometimes I forget to go to the cashpoint and have to use my debit for my shopping, as too late once unloaded shopping onto checkout, to go outside to cashpoint. I just have to hope it'll be alright when I do that.

Cash... rarely do I use my check card
My number was actually taken and used to purchase some type of meds online...$342 worth!!! However, my bank is awesome and actually called me to see if I had made the purchase and, as soon as I called them back, they put the money right back in my account. The problem is that a lot of times when you go to restaurants they have devices that the waiter can use to scan your card and store your number. They get about 20 or 30 card numbers stored on the device and then sell it to whoever. It's almost impossible to trace so, as long as you can get your money back, you might as well be happy w/ what you get. It hasn't soured me on using my debit card, though...especially since I know how easy it is to get my money back w/ my particular bank.
If I have cash on me...which isn't often...then I will use it first. But usually I just use my card. Sometimes when we are tight, I will just withdraw $200 or whtever amount and only let myself spend that, since it's a lot easier to keep track of cash. I mean who really uses their checkbook registers with a debit card? Yeah online banking is nice, but the vendors don't always report to the banks in a timely manner and it can screw you up if youa ren't careful.

Usually I do BUT unfortunately I forgot to write down a $5.00 transaction the other day and I overdrew my account by $2.16.
Thank God for bounce protection, but that'll cost me $25!!!
I haven't wrote a check in like 2-3 years. Thank god for debit cards. Oh and I can't stand when people come to my register with checks. When I see them filling it out, it's like, "are you serious?"
eftpos is electronic funds transfer/point of sale. AKA= debit/credit. Just like our debit cards here with the visa/mc/whatever logos on them. they can be used as credit or debit.

I guess that I will have to wipe off my debit because thats what I use most.
