Digging...

As most of you know, I have Cocoa (my choc lab) and I am watching Perdy, my sisters dog. Well, a few days ago, I planted two rose bushes. Well, Needless to say, I walk outside today and one of them is dug up! I was FUMING! As most of you know, rose bushes arent cheap. I have no idea which dog did it. These dogs don't stay outside. They stay inside most of the time. Well, I just walked outside, and they dug up the other one!!!! I was able to salvage it (however, not sure if it will live since they tore apart most of the roots). But, I dont want them to continue digging my flowers up. So, How do I break them of it? Ive already had to put an electric fence up so COCOA wont get out.. I dont know what else to do. They are only outside for a matter of about 2 hours a day. THATS IT! So, I dont understand.

(they were out there alittle longer today, but that was because i was cleaning out my garage and I had the door open between the house and garage)

...or line the area with pepper... might have to do it a few times.. with rain and whatnot...

as they dig, dogs grunt and snarl and stuff... and a snout full of pepper will keep them away for good (or at least a while... )

You can grow rose bushes from the clippings of another. Just grab some root tone and baby it until it takes root.

If you just planted them .. it's probabaly why they dug them up .. sounds like they were just playing.

In all honesty .. unfortunately there really isn't a way to keep a large dog from digging. They don't dig with their face .. and a big dogs face doesn't have to be close to the ground while they dig .. so pepper won't really do anything to them .. 3 good scruffs with those front paws and any trace of pepper is gone lol.

I've tried everything to get mine to stop .. I bought gravel (big and small) and put on the areas I dind't want dug in .. just moved it right out of the way (and it took my dog a hellova lot quicker (like mere minutes) to remove it than it did for me to put it down (like 4 hours) LOL).

Fresh upturned dirt is very attractive to dogs for some reason. Dogs LIKE to dig, most of them ne ways. So when they find dirt that is soft it intrigues them.

If your plants are under attack .. try putting some of that fencing they sell up (little metal white gates, or a metal tomato plant protector) around your plants. Moth balls also seem to detract them .. but they also might eat them .. so I dunno if that's a good idea or not.
