ST. CHARLES, Mo. - What the ...? A St. Louis-area town is considering a bill that would ban swearing in bars, along with table-dancing, drinking contests and profane music.

City officials contend the bill is needed to keep rowdy crowds under control because the historic downtown area gets a little too lively on some nights.

City Councilman Richard Veit said he was prompted to propose the bill after complaints about bad bar behavior. He says it will give police some rules to enforce when things get too rowdy.

But some bar owners worry the bill is too vague and restrictive, saying it may be a violation of their civil rights.
Marc Rousseau, who owns the bar R.T. Weilers, said he thinks the bill needs revision.

"We're dealing with adults here once again and I don't think it's the city's job or the government's job to determine what we can and cannot play in our restaurant," Rousseau said.

The proposal would ban indecent, profane or obscene language, songs, entertainment and literature at bars.

A meeting to discuss the proposal is set for Jan. 14.

I haven't found out what happened at the 1/14 meeting as yet.

Veit must have been off his meds. :24:

I wish these people would gtfo out of peoples business's.

And this has to be the work of christians. I'd be surprised as hell if these people aren't religious.

I think all this stupid crap should be left up to the owners. If an owner thinks swearing is driving away business, he can ban it. If another owner thinks he can bring in more business by allowing it, he can allow it. Smoking should be the same. Leave it up to the owners. Privately owned businesses should be privately run.

:clap:clap

Exactly. Inside Houston city limits.....If I built a bar, I could not make it smoking.....Let me re-phrase that.....EVEN IF IT'S MY BAR:mad

I am not a smoker, in fact I cannot stand it, but I have no issues with drinking in a place that allows smoking, I have never complained about it.

Why don't they ban drinking?....because it can be dangerous to your health.

I think that swear words have been used so often in modern society that there should perhaps be a redefinition of what is a swear word and just how offensive they are. I am not offended by most of these words any more, and banning them now would in my opinion be plugging the damn when all the waters gone out.

thats taking the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution and throwing it out the window pretty much. heres the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution for those that dont know what it is:

Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Broward County, Florida try to do the same thing to 2 Live Crew in banning the sale of their album As Nasty As They Wanna Be because of all the profanity and sexual references on it. 2 Live Crew won. more about that here:
