Oi Yanks! Wanna Know The REAL Australia?

:p

lol, used them all except for "wanna rage, fair dinkum and he's blotto, lol

Good stuff and good to see some Kevin bloody Wilson in there too, been to see him live and met him after the show and he's as funny off stage as he is on it. I'm surprised it never mentioned the biggest misconception of them all though! I'm talking about people thinking the saying "let's stick another shrimp on the barbie" is Australian. Aussies don't use the word shrimp, they call them prawns.
Oh and the stuff about rejecting the Queen or not is out of date now. You had the vote on it and you voted to keep her! Guess you don't think she's so bad after all! :p
I would also like to point out that Aussies are as full of misconceptions as others though when it comes to what they think they know about other countries. When I was over there I met people who seriously believed that we never see the sun in Britain and that it literally never stops raining!:24:

lol, most of them are, pretty, well, fair dinkum. ;)

Some are a little suspect. I can't say I've ever used 'you pong', 'he's blotto' or 'wanna rage?' before, maybe they're becoming a bit of a thing of the past (or the country), lol.

Some are more of a Western Australian thing.

Actually, the country does want to be free from the British Crown. The problem with that vote was the way they asked the question. It was formed more like, "Do you want an American style government?". And that scared everyone to vote no.

So in essence, we'ed rather the Queen than an AMerican style government ;)

Though you all know how I love the Queen. I'd be all for us dropping the Commonwealth when Charles takes the throne.

lol, I have a feeling that 'period' is slang. 'Full stop' is the proper term ;)

I reckon the use of slang varies the further you go into rural areas. In the big cities, most of those terms would probably only be heard pretty rarely, but if you went out to the country, you'd probably hear them all the time. I live in Canberra, which is kind of halfway between a country town and a large city, so the slang probably varies accordingly.

i love the way you Aussies speak. wish i could learn it. all i pretty much know is "piss off you bloody fuckin' wanker" and "g'day mate"...lol. not sure if any of that qualifies as proper Aussie language or not. but it sure is fun to say.

All abbo names. Practically everywhere has abbo names. I like it :)

My personal opinion it's the aboriginals way of getting back at you, they make some stupid name up and pretend it means sacred river ect and then piss themselves laughing when you are so proud for adopting their language into your culture! I'm sure Uluru actually means "Piss off back to England you criminal cunts!" :24:
