When something goes on and on, regularly, then yes, it can be bad enough to make a decision and do that I think - for some people.

You have to remember that we are each different with our own coping strategies - just because different people go about a problem in a different way to the next person, doesn't mean it's wrong or should be done differently. Individuals have to be allowed to deal with things in their own way, the way they they know is OK for them, then be given the time and space to do that in. :)

i like the idea of a nice glass of red wine and chilling......xcellent point there "glamour mum";)

recently two new british members joined, myself and juggler, this has meant that the mix is very different....here we have differing political views and as i have noticed from reading the knickers in a twisty thread, which was the catalyst for every one running around like headles chickens, the two things said on there which i found offensive are totally different.
this and previous experiences have lead me to believe that we really are two nations divided by a common language and a huge fuck off ocean.

however ria ,and guess anglel...red or white wine for you darling?oh and ria put that chillout cd on,and bad boy just massage my feet would you duckie:D

:homo: re the differing political views between us here and over there.

I haven't seen that thread you mentioned deb, re knickers in a twist.... then again, I don't think I will go and look.

Now then, as for the wine mrs, I am chilled and relaxed, it takes a lot to get me stressed out, but I would love a glass of red wine thank you, so if you haven't drunk it all by this evening LOL, please could you save me a glass, along with your curry and peshwari naan too? :) ;)

It's beyond fucking funny that people can get worked up, and to the point of "hurt feelings" in a freegin internet forum. Seriously, unless you have convered with someone for maybe a few years, and just haven't had a chance to meet, I could never imagine that some could get so butthurt about someone's remarks on a stinking message board!

You know something that I've come to realize. It doesn't matter that you're not talking face to face with someone. Words are words. Communication is communication. It doesn't matter that you have not conversed with someone for a few years to feel. The internet, forums such as these are just another means of communication. It's fluent, instant and live. I've said it before, at the end of the day it is human beings communicating to one another and what we say and the way we say it does have profound implications. Words can have a calming influence as well as hurt like a dagger. It's hard to take back what you've said once written and seen. And it is there to be read and re-read.....soaked in. Not only that, but in situations such as this, the words expressed to one another are distributed en mass for all to see, which further compounds it. I came across something which I thought kind of profound, posted it on another thread just now and going to post it here again for consideration. Here it is. I've entitled it "Food for thought":

Communicating
Jane Goodall On Why Words Hurt

Jane Goodall is a renowned primatologist best known for conducting a 40-year study of chimpanzee social and family life at Gombe Stream in Tanzania. She is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, a leading organization in the effort to protect chimpanzees and their habitats.

I think we’re still in a muddle with our language, because once you get words and a spoken language it gets harder to communicate.

Chimps are very quick to have a sudden fight or aggressive episode, but they’re equally as good at reconciliation. They make an appeasing gesture--reaching out a hand, crouching, giving little cries of fear or sadness. Then, very often, the aggressor will reach out and pat or reassure--offer an embrace or something like that--and the victim relaxes, and it is over.

When humans get these sudden outbursts of anger, we add words to the mix. And as you’ve probably experienced, it is much harder to forget a word than it is a slap. Words can be said in bitterness and anger, and often there seems to be an element of truth in the nastiness. And words don’t go away, they just echo around. So even if you can make up, the words come back.

-- Excerpted from an interview with David M. Ewalt on Sept. 17, 2005.

_______________
Perhaps we can learn something from chimps.
Tho, please be mindful of what you say and how you say it. Words are very powerful things and can often cut like a dagger.

Well yes, but one needs to view the these forums as entertainment, rather than a part of life.

It still doesn't undermine the fact that there is communication to one another in a public forum on a wide range of matter whether it be in fun, topical events, political issues, personal and otherwise. Entertainment to a degree yes but also pertinent to various aspects of life including personal.

Yes, it's just a forum... but behind every post is a real person with real feelings. I think those who say "It's just the internet" are forgetting that.

I totally agree with you on this!

I for one have personal conversations here with people that I might have never met, but I consider them good friends just the same. There are certain ones here that I feel I can talk to when I'm having a particularly bad day or if I'm upset about something. Not everyone is here for pure entertainment value....
