This reminds me of the classic "Journey To St Ives"
While on my way to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives.
Each wife had seven sacks;
Each sack had seven cats;
Each cat had seven kittens.
Kittens, cats, sacks, and wives; How many were going to St. Ives?

That's what I got. Weird there are so many different answers already. I'm looking for the catch, but I don't see it.
no where does it mention that the backpacks were on the bus

I'm going with 16, If there's a bus driver. 14 if there isn't. I thihnk that the cats aren't loaded onto the bus.

I added 2 for the driver. Though despite the fact that we weren't told about a driver, I assumed that there has to be one, because it's less than likely for 7 girls to be on a bus with no driver.
the bus driver was probally getting Coffee. Hense why he/she wasnt mentioned.
