For the first time, scientists have proof in human subjects that a derivative of an ingredient in red wine combats some symptoms of aging. Sirtris Pharmaceuticals announced the results here on Monday at the JPMorgan Healthcare Conference.

Resveratol, naturally found in red wine, stimulates a gene known as SIRT1, which has been linked with extended lifespans in rodents. The new study is the first time similar effects have been replicated in humans.

"We believe that this is the first time that a drug candidate has shown efficacy in a disease of aging by targeting the genes that control aging," said Christoph Westphal, CEO of Sirtris.

Ooooh I say.....rooms just booked up for ya! ;) :D

I should go on a bender and drink three glasses of red wine. I'll wake up younger the next day. :p

:24: Awww, bless ya G, yeah it would be for you eh, as you normally only have two glasses. LOL ;) Anyway, you are at a lovely young age so you have nothing to worry about hun. :)

They also say red wine's good for the heart too.

I got into red wine nearly two years ago - never could stand it before, but it just happened.

Mind you, I can only drink cabernet sauvignon or Blossom hill California - maybe you would like those Kate? I can't drink Shiraz, they are not too nice.

As Deb says, your country also produce good red wine too and white come to that. :)
