DrillBit Taylor last night.

Way funnier than I expected. 6/10

The Dark Knight yesterday afternoon..
Fucking amazing...it was so tense my stomach was in knots, and movies never do that to me. 10/10

It's my first Altman film and it was definitely good enough to urge me to see some of his other films. But it wasn't great. I know that it was made in 1972 so the plot wasn't so mediocre back then (
woman is schizo, most of the action takes place in her head
), but I've seen it done in a more fleshed out way since then.

However, the direction was good. Atlman knew where to put the camera to get good atmosphere and how to show off the scenery. There were a few creepy parts, like -- of all things -- a scene where
the main character sees herself lying naked on the bed.
And there's a couple other scenes like when
the woman is kissing her husband and then when she opens her eyes it's someone else
. I think the surrealism was done pretty well also, but it's not up there with the masters of it, like Buñuel or Lynch, to name two.

I would give it a 7.5/10. Mind you, that's well above average and the only movies that get 10/10 from me are movies you absolutely need to see/insta-classics/classics, and let's be fair, you don't absolutely need to see that many movies.

lol Hey, Austin Powers is probably the best stuff Mike Myers has ever done. I loved this part:

Spoiled though I don't know why. Just being safe :)
[Austin Powers is drowning a man in the toilet]
Austin Powers: Who does Number Two work for? Who does Number Two work for?
Cowboy: Yeah, that's it! You show that turd who's boss.

And now Myers doesn't seem that funny.

Coffy. A 1972 blaxploitation film. A woman becomes a vigilante. It's thoroughly entertaining but obviously, given the very nature of exploitation films, it's not exactly "high art." But that's great! There's interesting deaths and attitude!

I gave it an 8/10 on the ol' LJ.

lol Yeah that too.

Point is, he used to be funny.

Edit: Just watched Lady in the Water, finally, after hearing all the bad stuff about it. I expected a so-bad-you-have-to-laugh-out-loud type of movie but I don't know, maybe I'm just not as offended by M. Night as other people are. I don't think this was a great movie, or even a good movie... depending on my mood it goes from mediocre to almost mediocre.

It had decent direction. All of his movies do because he's a talented director. The writing, like a lot of his movies, is hokey and the worst part about it (bad script usually = bad movie), but the direction is able to bring it up a few points to make. I think the acting was decent enough. Hell, I can even get past M. Night's so called arrogance
(A writer who inspires the world, played by himself
. And he always has good music in his movies. In fact, that was the best part of The Village (a movie that I loved the first half then hated the second).

It's a 4/10 and on my scale that means I can't quite recommend it but if you do choose to watch it it's not the worst thing you could watch.
