what do i do??

I would not quite, that would look very bad.[your short alot of money and then you quite] I have been a cashier for many years at several different places. I would go talk with your manager first thing Monday morning. Tell her you really love your job, that you do not want to lose it. Maybe she will have some suggestions for you.Like James said , maybe you should slow down, count it twice if need be . Do you still have deposit + withdrawal slips? If so do you record on the back how many tens, fives etc. that you give out or recieve. I'm wondering why your manager hasn't spoken to you sooner ? Hope things go well for you !

This is great advice too Clare.

Awww, you'll be ok hun, I am sure, once they know how you are really.:)

Hi SB, good to see you again. :)

thanks for all the feedback guys. Well, the guy who claimed I was short counting his money came back yesterday saying that he had found it. I felt like he should at least say something to me about the situation, but he never did. I was told by a coworker and today when he came in he completely ignored me, which kind of hurt my feelings, I felt like an apology from him would have been nice...or even if he could tell me what happened personally, he didn't even let me know that the mistake was on his part. Oh well. And as for teh rest of the $930 I was short, it ended up being in my work, which means it won't count against me. I had processed a withdrawal for a money order and forgot to do less cash, so the computer only thought I was short. I guess this morning I was pretty nervous because I figured that my boss would have called me yesterday to let me know that both situations were fine now, instead of letting me worry over it. Oh well. I know my problem is going too fast. My initial problem also had to do a lot with the fact that I had a huge coin vault and for some reason i was out of balance a lot, but I sold it to someone else and ever since then this is my first slip up....so I think I am ok. I am improving, and hopefully now after I have been scared shitless of losing my job I can slow down and talk less!!!

Oh wow, Clare - fantastic news,:) but that bloke should be made to apologize. He should have at least owned up to his error.

He probably felt sooooooooooo embarrassed to speak to you though, so that may be why he hasn't, although gutless blokes, they are a disgrace imo.

I really don't have issues that are REAL issues very often...I usually THINK I am short or over and the computer will say I am, but then when we go back and look at all my transactions 90% of the time I will catch it and find where i forgot to do something like type in the less cash from a deposit or something like that. I was over $500 last week...the next day I counted my $ and was short $500...therefore they cancelled each other out, and don't count against me. The reason I was over was because I had strapped some 20s together, and mistakenly put $1500 in a $2000 strap. DOH. My manager is a very sweet woman, and she will go to bat for me as much as possible I know. She is extremely fair and helps me all the time, I have never once seen her lose her patience with anyone.
writing on the back of deposit/withdrawal slips would be an insane amount of work, I see about 200 customers a day. But in the computer whenever we take in over $1000 or give out over $1000 we have to detail the cash in denominations and I can go back and look at that.

haha thats what i was thinking ria...he felt like shit for acting like he was 100% right when he found out the next day that he wasn't...

He was the customer...and "the customer is always right" <cough> bullshit <cough>
If it was me, I would have just spoken to the manager too. How can you "make" a customer do the right thing and apologize to the one he accused?
Decent that he knew he caused trouble and came back and admitted it.

well this guy is in the bank everyday. I don't think he was an ass about it really, but he definitely could have been nicer. To each his own, if I were him I would have sincerely apologized and felt really bad, not avoided the person (me) who he put on the spot like that.
