SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- A future Super Bowl champion may someday be crowned overseas in a game witnessed predominantly by a foreign audience, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said.

"There's a great deal of interest in holding a Super Bowl in London," Goodell told reporters Monday. "So we'll be looking at that."

The commissioner said London's new Wembley Stadium would make a great candidate for pro football's biggest matchup, given the enthusiasm overseas for the game.

The NFL has been expanding its overseas presence for years by televising games around the world. It's held pre-season games in numerous countries in Europe, Asia, Mexico and Canada, and in 2005, the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers played the first regular-season match outside the United States.

The game at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City drew the league's largest crowd to date, 103,467.

On Oct. 28, Wembley will host the first regular-season NFL game outside North America. It took just 90 minutes to sell the first 40,000 tickets for the game between the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants. Goodell said event organizers have sold 95,000 tickets in all.

Goodell spoke about the possibility of a British Super Bowl after a luncheon Monday in Scottsdale sponsored by the host committee for the 2008 Super Bowl in Arizona.

Thats what Peter will have you believe. They love it. They sold out a regular season game between the Giants and the Dolphins in 90 minutes.

They are already doing a regular season game this year in 2 weeks in London. I doubt the Superbowl would move to a venue outside of the US, but it would be a neutral territory. As it stands now, there is always a possibility there would be an actual home team at their own stadium.

this county is being sold right out from under us i'm sure all the rest will follow Baseball Basketball Hockey , oh well i'll just spend more time on the boat fishing.

there's actually quite a lot of interest in England concerning the sport and that numbers growing. ...majority still despise it mind ..think the thing stopping most is its stop/start nature

It wouldn't affect me personally because I'd never spend the money to go, but it seems like an odd idea to me. I'd stick with pre-season and maybe 1-2 regular season games a year.

Personally, I don't see the need to have it outside the US at all. Until a country wants to add teams to the league at least. Its just a sick attempt to try to gain fans so the NFL can increase the revenue stream.

put it like this......proper football organised games in neutral countries by the top teams years ago......now its the biggest sport in the world........if american football is to grow this is what it has to do.......hold show pieces overseas and allow overseas sides into the NFL season.......say for instance the london monarchs joined the NFL the interest over here would be immense,all of europe would want a team in the competition.......all of the monarchs games would be at a sold out wembley....and the sport could boast a true world champion having beaten teams not only from america

its all about promoting the sport my dear.........if it doesn't grow it'll stagnate with the same teams winning the superbowl every year......by playing the superbowl at wembley its creating huge interest and alot of kids wanting to play the game....has to be good for any sport

its not the game,i quite like it...its the fact that its called football when the balls thrown......in football the ball should be kicked

its one game in a regular season of how many games?......and europe does have a league thats getting stronger........let us in so we can compete with the best......its the only way for the game to thrive
