I come from Queensland Australia and currently we are in the grip of a drought.
We are on level 5 water restrictions which are as follows
Target usage of 140 litres a day per household.
No use of hoses except for health or safety reasons
Limited use of water outside only with buckets and during prescribed times.
We time our showers with Govt issue egg timers.lol

This has made gardening and even daily living quite difficult and as we are looking at this as a longterm problem I wondered if any of you have had to face similar restrictions.
USA must have some very dry areas , so must other parts of the world.

Any tips on how to get through this? Particularly in the gardening area.
Once I had a thriving garden , now all that's left is what I can keep alive in pots.

I'm in Brisbane but nearly all of the SE is in the same predicament.
A new water grid will be finished by late next year which should relieve the situation but I don't think we'll ever be able to take water for granted again.

I think officially the drought dates back to 2000 and is prediticted to last for some years yet.

It's made us all very creative about water use.

I've heard of using bath water for gardening. I'm sure you can find articles showing what soaps to use. I'll see if I can find anything.

And you'll likely see it again if you return.:D

It's amazing how you adapt. That would have horrified most of us once, now it's commonplace.
