"CNN) -- Just hours before his execution by injection, a Tennessee death row prisoner who was convicted of killing a police officer ordered his final meal -- pizza for a homeless person.
Philip Workman, 53, requested a vegetarian pizza be delivered to a homeless person in Nashville, Workman's attorney confirmed.
Riverbend Maximum Security Institution refused, said Riverbend spokeswoman Dorinda Carter.
"We can get some special things for the inmate but the taxpayers don't really give us permission to donate to charity," Carter said.
According to the state's protocol, a last meal's cost cannot exceed $20."

I think she was talking about this line from the first post:

And then I think her point was that the homeless person would be a better charity case than the prisoner.

And I don't think Grace would say it's ok to deny prisoner's food.

But I don't know for sure, just my opinion on what I think is going on here.

Agreed. How can they just let a human being starve? A criminal is still a human, whether they did something illegal or not. That article even said that ballistics tests showed that the bullet that killed the officer was from a fellow officer's gun, a friendly fire. And the witness even admitted to lying. That inmate, from what I've read, seems to be a rather nice guy. Just made some mistakes in his life. And as he said, his gun discharged when he was hit in the head. Sound like he did it on purpose? Not to me. That guy should be given a fucking medal. Most inmates would keep their meal, but this guy, in a final act of kindness, tried to give his to a homeless man that could use the meal. I don't see why the hell the people refused to let him do it. And what the hell does "It can't exceed $20" mean in this case? Order a small pizza. As for the taxpayers, I think most would agree to give the pizza to the homeless man. They are paying for the pizza, who gives a shit who eats it? The inmate doesn't really want it, or need it, the homeless man does.

Just another reason some parts of our country are going to shit these days.
