Can people not be nice for the sake of being nice?

Ive been out all morning running errands, paying bills, etc. I decided after it was all taken care of that I was going to run to Sonic and grab me some lunch before I head home.
I got my food, started my car and it wouldnt start. It was dead! So I asked this man that was parked beside me if he could give me a jump (since I dont know how) I got the jumper cables out of my trunk and he got the car started for me.
I handed him a $20 bill for doing that for me and he told me he would rather have my # instead. I told him I dont give out my # to random people and he told me "dont you think you owe me that at least?" being kind of cocky. I told him that I was thankful that he got my car started and I really had to go so would he please accept my gratitude of the $20. Oh but nooo! I said "Dude dont make me pull out my pepper spray because I wont hesitate if you dont leave me be" His words were "Man you cant do anything nice for anyone anymore" and used some profanity towards me and left. Asshole!:mad

haha we do. It's scary. I'm just trying to relate this to my experiences of being shot down. I can almost put myself in that guys shoes. I would have denied the 20 bucks and asked for your number. If you said no though I would have just said ok and walked away ashamed and feeling rejected (yet again).

Amy, I can completely understand what you are saying and why.

That sort of mouthful from him, was vulgar and it doesn't read to me that he was joking with you at all.

What an idiot he was!

Bet it made you feel very unnerved too?

Hope you have a good evening though hun. :)

it sounds like, if he had taken a different or more soft approach he may have got your number. And most woman dont like a persistant guy if they turn him down off the bat.
So it was his cockyness and errogance that turned you off mainly right?

Going by Amy's posts, it looks as though it was the disgusting way she was spoken to by a complete stranger, when she only asked for help starting her car. He sounds very creepy to me.
