Ive made a decision

I would gladly take my salaried job any day over an hourly one. Sure there are weeks when I work more than 40 hours per week, but then there are plenty more where I don't. Also, taking the afternoon off paid is grand indeed. I guess it all depends on what you do and where you work.

I enjoy getting paid for the work I do, sucks for you though because if you work overtime, you aren't making any money. I, however, am. I also tend to take an hour and a half on my 1 hour lunch breaks when I can. Usually it's more or less a half hour. I drive around all day so I can stop by best buy, get new shoes, renew my license, etc... all without spending a dime of my own gas money.

If I work a saturday, I get paid time and a half. Hourly > Salary.

Anywho...

I know all of you would agree that hourly wage jobs suck so don't argue otherwise. If you need to take off 2 hours to take your kid to the dentist, you lose money.

That's why you have sick days and vacation days.

I would much rather lose 2 hours pay for taking my kid to the doctor than lose 20 hours pay a week being salary. I'm salary and I think it SUCKS.

Again, it depends on where you work. I don't lose any time. I don't have to take sick time or vacation time. Most employers don't pay overtime anyway anymore so I'll take my salaried M-F job anyday. The benefits for ME outweigh hourly pay so much its not even funny. Trust me, I used to contract making hourly pay. Sure I make more money, but like i said, when I want to take time off for something, I don't get paid for it. They also won't pay overtime since my hourly rate is so high they don't want to lose more money so I end up working 40 hours a week anyway.

You are absolutely nuts .. don't pay overtime .. they HAVE to pay OT. And just about everyone I know that is still hourly ... can pick up OT if they want.

Salary people have vacation days too .. they can't just not show up for work whenthey want to .. just because they are salaried.

You're trying to make it sound like salary people can waltz in and out of work as they feel like it and still get paid. You drop below a certain amount of hours a week .. and you can bet they are going to say something. They don't, however, care how many hours you work over when you are salaried.

What I meant was, they don't make OT available. I can waltz in and out of work. I don't have to punch a clock. Audra, I wasn't saying I was better, simply arguing my experience of salary vs hourly. I will stop now.

Ok, one that doesn't pay on an hourly basis. A blue collar job is great, we all need cars, fastfood and shoes, but the "real" jobs are the ones of those that are educated.

If I stung you, I apologize. What I meant to say is the "REAL GOOD PAYING JOBS". Sure there are exceptions, like the guy who works OT and makes 60k a year. Go ahead, pile on the stories of those that don't have a high school education that are so rich it would make your head spin. I guarantee that if you ask any one of them if they had to do their lives over, they would tell you they would have received more education. The world is an ever changing place. You can't live off $10 an hour and send your kids to college. Heck, I don't even know how anyone with a family of 4 can survive making $40K unless you are in some rural area or something.

Yeah an education can be good...but most people can do without it and still make good money. I wish tim would reply to this b/c with his job he didn't go to college for...and he makes good money. And if he had to do his life over, I'm sure he would do the exact same thing that led him to his life today, without that education.

(School Resource Officer). Anyways, If I do that, then I am gonna go for my special needs degree as well as finish my teaching. Reguardless, I am finishing my teaching degree.

Thats very cool... and depending on where you work.. most likely the ditrict will pay for you to go back to get your special ed certificate... or at least a portion of it
