So yeah... Today was very strange...
I was walking with coworkers during lunch along a creek in the woods. There are trails and we walk regularly. Beautiful day out, we are walking along. I see a bug fluttering away right towards my face.... :eek Yeah.... it fluttered its little ass right into my left eye!!! I dropped to my knees screaming in pain. My coworkers dont know what the hell is going on. Its clawing at my eyelids and my eyeball because my eyelids immediately closed on it. I could even see its legs digging in my eye! Dude... it hurt so bad!! I finally get the bug out and my eye is burning. I start walking again so I dont slow everyone down. It's still burning and stinging. My eye starts to swell right away. We grab a bottle of water I had and squirt it a few times. Mind you we are out in the middle of the woods. LOL!! We get back to work about 20 minutes later and I look at my eye. Holy Cow!! :eek It's like this big!! --->:eek I took a picture of it with my phone and sent it to John. He's like you need to go to the doc asap. It was stinging right at my tear duct. The underneath of the eye was what was swollen though. It kept getting worse. I went to urgent care and got checked out. It was tricky riding motorcycle with one eye. You really take that guy for granted! LOL I got a prescription for antibiotic eye drops and some numbing drops too. Doc told me to get some Claritin or Benedryl. I was having an allergic reaction to whatever the bug had on it. I got some Claritin and within a half hour, my eye was opened back up and almost normal looking!! What a miracle drug! Totally awesome!
So I got back to work and talked to some coworkers who suggested it might have been one of those damn Asian Beetles. We have those things all over here. They said they have some stinky smelling poison on them. I did some searching and holy crap... I really despise those bastards now!! :mad
Thanks Wikipedia...
The Asian lady beetle, like other lady beetles, uses isopropyl methoxy pyrazine as a defensive chemical to deter predation, but the Asian lady beetle contains this chemical in its hemolymph at much higher concentrations than many other lady beetle species. These insects will “reflex bleed” when agitated, releasing hemolymph from their legs. The liquid has a foul odor (similar to that of dead leaves) and can cause stains. It is believed that some people have allergic reactions when repeatedly exposed to lady beetles (especially dead ones). Sometimes, the beetles will bite humans, presumably in an attempt to acquire salt, although many people feel a pricking sensation as a lady beetle walks across the skin. Bites normally do no more harm than cause irritation although a small number of people are allergic to bites[1].
:yuk I had that crap in my eye!!!! Anyways... I guess I am one of the chosen few.
Now that I am all better :muscles: and look back at this wild story, its flippin HILARIOUS!! From now on... when walking in woods during lunch, I am wearing goggles similar to these!
