mmm I dunno couple years now. First one popped up in Trussville, then in Centerpoint, then in Fultondale. There could be more, but those are the ones I know about and visit sometimes.

checker's is awesome! i love mcdonald's but sometimes their fries are a little too salty for me i'm not big on salt.
