Is there any rules or laws about carrying a controlled substance (with a prescription) on a plane? I'm assuming it is best to have these in your checked bags, but I want to make sure there is no hold up, and that I have everything I need to have for these...

The prescription is in our name btw, it just happens to be a controlled substance. We just don't want to be stopped for it.

I would have a note from the doctor just incase... it won't hurt and you don't want it taken away from you

Well, it will be in our checked bags, we aren't carrying it on, so I don't forsee a problem...but you can never be too careful in this crazy world today.

You can bring them .. but not in your carry on bag inside the people part of the plane.

I agree I would call your airline(s) (in case you are using 2 different ones for going and coming) and ask them just in case. It'd really suck to get there and have a problem and either have to flush your meds or miss your flight.

Travelling on domestic flights (within Oz though) I've never had any issues carrying my medication, which is pre-filled syringes of a controlled substance, and when travelling internationally I've had to have a written letter from my doctor--this relates to taking medication into another country that has different laws/rules that cover specific medicines.

also if it's a liquid, and you need it on board the plane...def. have a doc note.

Because my medication comes in syringes I'm not allowed to take them in my carry-on luggage only packed into my check-in luggage, and on international flights they checked that each syringe is still in unbroken vacuum sealed packaging because they do contain a liquid.

i think they are more strict here. When my parents went to florida, they couldn't even bring me home a snowglobe b/c it contained a liquid...and it was only a snowglobe

It's kinda overkill, isn't it? Your post about not being able to take liquids onboard planes made me think about the minute amount of liquid my syringes contain, and I wonder what the heck damge that small amount of liquid could do if it was anything other than Avonex.

I don't know what they're thinking anymore...it's kind of like what are they thinking when they are taking little kids to the side and searching them?
