Ok this may belong in debate or something Im not sure what will come of this post

But I wanted your opinions on something.

i dont usually drink often or at all...especially since I first found out I was pregnant. But lately I have been having a few beers every night...or a few glasses of wine. I still get up and take care of my daughter no problem...the same as I did before.

So my question is...how bad is it that for about the past 2 weeks now I have had at least a little alcohol every night?

I dont know why I have started up drinking and as I said it doesnt impare my ability or desire to take care of my angel in the slightest but I was wondering..I dunno...just wanted to see thoughts.

i guess in a way I feel bad about it...specially since I havent drank in so long till I started this up

I guess it all depends on why you are drinking. Do you feel that you need to have a drink? Can you decide to go a night without a drink and be ok with that?

I'm not saying you are in any way... but an alcoholic doesn't have to get drunk to be one. Someone who has 3-4 beers every night can be an alcoholic, yet they never drink enough to get drunk.

I agree with Tim here on the Questions asked..

but also, you worry and work all day.. many people relax and shut off thier minds by having a few drinks at night..

But I would say, If your already asking.. then ya already know...

It would seem to me though that you are drinking more as a way to bring yourself down a little at night.. you know relax, enjoy your you time.. and thats not a bad thing either.

I dont feel like I need to have a drink...I guess when I sit down and think about it the main reason I have been drinking more lately is because the more I drink the less my bf does.

I have tried talking to him before about him drinking and him needing to cut back on it...but unfortunatly he does not see a problem with drinking a few beers every night...he needs to to go to sleep he says.

So like I said the more I drink the less he does...I usually wind up throwing up now from 2 beers...

I dont know what to do or how to get him to understand...I even told him I do NOT want our daughter growing up around that thinking its ok but he has a way around everything.

No offense, but it sounds like you are being a hypocrit.. You reasons for drinking are to get your bf to stop, so that you child is not around drinking.... seems like a endless circle to me.

I honestly don't see a problem with a few drinks every night. Drinking to simply get yourself drunk is the definition of an alcoholic. Although your reasoning, as Kevin said, is slightly hypocritical, I don't see a problem with it really.

I mean I grew up around my dad who drank... alllllll the time. He is more of a social drinker and rarely gets piss drunk off of it (as far as I can tell).

yeah already realized that ouz...right after I said that I dumped the rest of the beer I had...Im not going to drink anymore.... so I guess this topic is unnecessary now.

actually I was hoping by me doing that he would get tired of buying so much beer and quit while she was still to young...I guess in a way I was trying to manipulate him...bad I know but talking didnt work

*shrugs* I didnt see ti that way before that i was a hypocrit...thank you for pointing that out...I needed that eye opener

kat, he will stop when he feels the need to. There is nothing you can say or do to make him stop. My boyfriend smokes every night, and I have just come to terms with it. I don't LIKE it, but every now and again I'll light up with him, so I guess that makes me a hypocrit too?

That's not even close to the definition, like I said you don't ever need to get drunk to be an alcoholic. That's a common misconception. Alcoholism is characterized by a preoccupation with alcohol and impaired control over alcohol intake.

Ok, so it's a socialistic definition, but it's close enough. A preoccupation with, and impaired control over alcohol intake means you're most likely drinking until you're piss drunk and pass out.

About 10 years ago I had this neighbor that when he came home from work he would have 5-6 beers. Now this was a big guy (about 300lbs +) so he never got drunk from that amount, but he had to have those beers. He was an alcoholic.

I know this because I had an arguement from a professional that KNOWS the definition. I thought you had to be a drunk to be an alcoholic. But I was told that just 3 beers a night, every night is enough to classify you as an alcoholic. At first I still didn't believe this person and his definition, but after reading about it, I was shocked to see what alcoholism is all about.
