Welcome and you are not alone.

The syptoms you are describing sounds alot like depression or some form of it. If it is or even if you think it might be, then it's very important that you talk to your doctor about it as soon as possible. I have had depression several times and it gives you a very dark and blue outlook. Where it seems that you are all alone even when your with friends.

I was very embarrassed the first time I went to the doctor, but he told my a few things that made me feel much better about seeing him.

1. Millions of Americans suffer or will suffer from some sort of depression at some time in their life. SO YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE
2. Doctors DO NOT KNOW what brings on depression, it can happen to anyone
3. It is a chemical imballance in the brain that is very easily corrected by medication.
4. Suicide is the #1 killer when it comes to depression, though that may seem like an option now or in the near future, TRUST me, it isn't....

I wish you the best... now go talk to your doctor :D

Clinical depression? I dunno, I felt the same way when I was in my teens. My advice is to just hang out with your friends more. Don't think about it so much. That's the only reason I got through it before doing something drastic.

I know what you are going through, i've been down that road many times. My advice is to listen to what recklesstim has to say about it, it's pretty much the same thing that I would say.

And don't listen to James, he has no idea what he is talking about when it comes to this subject.

Depression can, and certainly does affect teenagers, regardless of what most people think. It can be chalked up to "just hormones", and sometimes it can be, but if you honestly feel otherwise, it could be clinical depression.

The most important thing, first of all: talk to someone. It may be embarrassing, but talk to a guidance counsellor at your school, or a doctor or someone in that sort of position. It may seem very intimidating, but they have the training to help you and they will do everything they can.

Depression can be triggered by many things, and sometimes it feels like absolutely nothing. But just feeling like this doesn't automatically mean that it's clinical depression. Talk to someone, for sure.

How often do you feel this? For how long at a time?

You are right Le, there is no way that anyone here can tell you for sure what it might be.
But to error on the safe side, you should talk to someone about it. Let them make the call.

start with a school guidance counselor. That's how I started to see someone that was about 5 years ago, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. After that I started seeing a therapist every fall/winter since then. which I think would be your second best choice.

Clinical depression - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Read this and talk to your parents. IMO your parents are the best people to talk to about it. They love you, and you know they'll do anything for you. Guidance counselors are not always the best people to talk to.

Sure, Alicia's helped her, but my GC was about as useful as sandals in December.

But I guess I wouldn't know that because I have absolutely NO idea what it is to live with depression.

Most of the time... I'm not sure for how long at a time, the feeling just seems to always be there, on some days it's not that bad, and I don't really notice it that much, but on other days it will be really bad and just like... Drag me down. I'll hardly have any motivation to even get out of bed, and sometimes I'll just start crying for like, no reason. :( :mad
But *then* some days I will feel really happy and hyper...:confused Not often though.

I don't know how I'd go about talking to my parents about it... I don't think they'd understand, and it's very hard for me to talk to other people about how I feel... :(

You should talk to somebody.

If not your parents, find help somewhere. Your guidance counselor, or give one of these organizations a call.

I might try talking to my mom about it.. I've tried too, before, but I just can't seem to get the courage up to tell her.

This is why it is sometimes easier to talk to someone who you aren't real close to. Your parents are a good choice since they will know what best to do for you, but if you have any problems going to them, you may find it easier to go to your guidance counselor or school nurse since they won't pass judgement on you. Like I said before, many kids and many adults go through this, so if you talk to a professional about it, they won't think you are strange or wierd, they have dealt with this kind of thing many times before. So don't be afraid to ask for advice from them.

But asking for help is very important... trust me.

Just remember, it's not you or anything you did to feel this way.

If you explain your feelings to your parents as well as you have explained them here then
they should surely understand. If you do not want to tell your parents then talk to your
advisor at school. Noone should suffer from depression. There is help out there.

Sarah its ok to talk to your friends about it so they can be there for you if you need someone to lean on. Maybe if its easier, talk to your friend first and then the both of you talk to your mom about it. Friends can be a great people to help give you the courage you need sometimes. Please dont ignore this though because you are afraid to talk to your parents. Another option may be to write a letter to your mom telling her how you feel, then she can approach you. Trust me hun if I was your mom I would want to know.
