My great Aunt's house just burnt down. I mean down, nothing left.

My mom just called to let me know. Fortunately my aunt wasn't at home, but was in ft wayne having dinner with some of her friends so she is just fine (aside from the shock of your house burning.)

Hopefully this will get her to move to FW to be closer to us. But that's not news I wanted to hear about.

It apparently started in the garage. It roasted the garage, the kitchen, the bathroom by the kitchen, half the upstairs and pretty much the entire basement. They're looking at a total loss.

Both her cats were lost, but the dog survived after he got free from being chained up in the garage. (talk about one lucky fuckin dog)


My great aunt is going to be staying with my aunt (dads sister) for the time being.

They're not sure exactly how it started, but because it started in the garage, the fire marshall has to be there to investigate and he won't be there until Monday morning.

Sorry to hear about your aunts house. Where we are, they always send the investigator to house fires. No matter what started them.
But I wonder, since the dog was in the garage and it started there.. maybe the dog knocked two things together and caused the fire or something..(or not)

I never noticed any gas cans or anything really very flammable in the garage itself, that's usually locked up in her barn.

I'm wondering if it had to do with the garage not being insulated, and with the -5 with windchill to 35 degree differences if it was an electrical fire.

Well, here are the pictures.


My dad said she'd had just gone to get a few containers of gasoline about a week prior to this happening and had them in the garage, and was gonna move them Saturday to the barn.

The suspected cause is a heating lamp that she turns on for the dog. She keeps him in the garage when she leaves the house.

Officially though, we still don't know the cause. It burned pretty hot though, if you notice the trucks roof is caved in. One of the support beams fell on it, then burned down into nothingness.


From the gravel driveway looking toward the house. The Garage was on the left side of the house itself, attached:



Looking long ways at the house; the shadow is the barn. The angled piece of timber standing at an angle in the corner, right behind that was her bedroom. The corner was where the 1/2 bath was.
