This is horrible. Who on God's green earth decided that research papers should be invented? Because they are totally stupid. Anyways...I have two I am working on right now...if anyone is a good writer or a grammar nazi,
I'd appreciate some help with the following:

One disturbing case in point is that many countries do not have mandates for drug testing or background checks when hiring employees. This is a particularly unsettling practice in the case of the U.S. airline industry, which has outsourced thousands of mechanical jobs to places like Hong Kong and Singapore (Dobbs, 116).

1-I need a better phrase than "in the case of"...something about that just doesn't sit well with me
2-is which the correct pronoun here? I'm pretty sure it is but again, something just doesn't sound right about it.

1) You could probably just say "unsettling practice in the U.S airline industry". The other words don't seem necessary.

2) I'm also pretty sure that "which" is correct.

1 - how about 'of the US Airline Industry,' since it as a whole says "This is a particularly unsettling practice of the US Airline Industry"?

2 - try 'who' since you're referring to a single group or entity.

So it would all go "This is a particularly unsettling practice of the US Airline Industry, who has outsourced thousands of mechanical jobs to places like Hong Kong and Singapore..."

That's just my two cents. I love english, ask me for help anytime :)

hmm i don't know if who would work...the airline industry is in fact a single entity, but it is not necessarily a group of people. actually you might be right. I'm really not sure

"Which" is correct as you are talking about a thing - sure that thing is a group of people, "who" would apply to single individual, in this case (It can mean more than one person but doesn't apply here).
