CDs! I love CDS and think of myself as quite the audiophile. Now, I know some folks are merely casual listeners of this art, so this particular rant is for my fellow music lovers.
What urks me about CDs are the following:

Number 1: Those idiotic stickers they put on the spines of CDs. These things are ANNOYING. You rip them off, only to have some sticky RESIDUE left on your case, which quickly collects all sorts of dirt, and grime, and for some reason, CAT HAIR, from a cat you don't own! It's ANNOYING!

Number 2: DIGIPAKS. These are CDs whose actual case is a flimsy piece of cardboard with PRINTED GRAPHICS ON IT. "Well, what's wrong with that?" Well, for one, the whole case (which is also the album art) is now easily susceptible to all sorts of wear and tear. "Well, we're saving the environment by using biodegradable packaging." BULLCRAP. Paper is cheaper than plastic. That's why they manufacture them.

Number 3: Security tags that are not only inside the CD case, but are actually stuck ON the artwork itself. Then, when you try to remove it, your CD artwork is either warped, or ripped, and is now COMPLETELY RUINED! This needs to be outlawed. Put a security tag on a blank piece of paper and stick it inside the booklet! Simple! Stop ruining my album artwork!

Number 4: Now I know - this ticks off JUST ABOUT EVERYONE – COPYRIGHT PROTECTION. You usually find out a disc has copyright protection when you put it in your disc drive, and your whole computer FREEZES! PERMENANTLY! BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!

And then the record companies wonder why no one is buying CDs anymore. No one is buying them because they completely took the fun out of owning CDs! If you want to increase sales, stop messing with the packaging, get rid of those top spine stickers, and those idiotic security tags, and the copyright protection crap that screws up your computer! And more importantly, sign some good freaking bands!! No one is going to buy CDs from bands that suck!

Well, I own a cat, so the hair is explainable, but I fucking hate it when they put stickers on the actual case. That's why I really appreciate it when they stick the sticker on the plastic wrapping that the CD comes in.

Actually, a lot of my CDs are in this, and I actually kind of like it better. They're hardly going to get damaged if you take care of you CDs (as in, don't throw them around, don't leave them where the cat can eat them, whatever). I always end up breaking plastic jewel cases a lot faster, because the plastic always cracks on me. I also find the digipaks to be a lot more visually pleasing. They look better, the art is a lot more amazing. It just really makes the CD look like a proper package because it is so much more customizable.

Number 3: Security tags that are not only inside the CD case, but are actually stuck ON the artwork itself. Fuck, I hate that too.

Thanks for reading the thread and sharing your opinion, andcuriouser. Glad to have someone who agrees with me on my rants, :D .

Well, perhaps I worded that wrongly. I should have said, 'Glad to have another person to agree on my rants', lol. . I'll post a few more tomorrow since it is getting late in my timezone.

if you take off the stickers that are on the case and you have sticky residue you can just use rubbing alcohol or Goo gone and your troubles are over.

My entire cd collection is on both of my computers. Perhaps your computer is just a POS?

I've never blue screened upon ripping my music to my laptop.

and you know what? That is PERFECTLY LEGAL to do. YOU paid for the music, you're within your rights to put it on your computer so you can listen to it there.

i wouldn't have understood what you meant by the stickers on the spines leaving a mass until it happened to one of my new ones last week, i wasn't best pleased. you get the non stick stickers, i don't get why they cant use those.

And i know what you mean about the cardboard sleeves, there pathetic however recently iv grown to like them, it gives a nice Independent Label feeling

Worthy rant! I'd also like to add another thing, don't know if I can explain it properly, when they print the sides (where it says the name of the album and artist) upside down so it makes your CD collection look higledy pigledy unless you put the CD away upside down!
