I am very much into handwork, art and craft. I find them therapeutic and they bring solace in my life. I find them very calming and meditative. I am into many kinds of art and craft like painting, mandala, worli art, gond art, Madhubani painting, embroidery, paper weaving etc. I am a beginner in crochet and trying to learn it from my younger daughter who is a pro in crochet and is running a business selling crochet items. I spend a good amount of time searching online for art and craft ideas from YouTube DIY videos and Pinterest. I am also a certified Art therapist and use art as a medium of healing in my therapy sessions.
How about you? Are you into admiration of art?? Or do you go beyond that and indulge into any form of them doing it yourself?

No, honestly I'm not a big fan of manual labor, unless it's exclusively for me as a job it's not my thing, honestly I wouldn't stand for it.

I like art and craft and like to make things when I see them on net but because of time constraints I am not able to spend time on it. I will definitely engage myself in art and craft after I retire from the job.

@monaco66. It's okay. Not everyone will like it. Many would consider it as manual labour. But there are many like me who despite the busy and tight schedule would squeeze time to indulge in it as it brings therapeutic benefits to them. Many do it as hobby and means of recreation .
@Sanjeev. Glad to know that you are interested in it. What kind of art and craft interest you the most? Yes, time can be a big constraint to indulge in such things. You can do a bit as a hobby and maybe later after retirement get into it on a big scale.

Wow, that's great. How do you use art as a therapy. Let's say someone is very angry, how do you use art to manage their anger.
In my school, I work with younger children. I work with those with special needs and those with behavioural and emotional problem. I come up with the ideas depending on the child and his observation..like for example, one child was angry and I asked him to paint his anger in the colour that he wants. He chose red for a week, next week was black as he said that he was not sure about his feelings. We used to make small talk around it in age appropriate way. These are some instances. Indirect social stories, expressions through movements and expressions help with young children. I do mandalas, zentagle, doodling, claywork, pattern copying, weaving and many more on regular basis that help with inner calmness. We do it in groups with stories and planned conversation.

Great to know about your work and how you are working with kids to channelize their emotions. My kid is also very much interested in drawing and painting. However, he is only interested in creating dinosaur or the creatures he seen on video games. How do I motivate him to explore other things?

Art is self expression. There is nothing wrong or right about it. He is expressing what he is actually experiencing and finds an interest in it. There should be no direct intervention there or for that matter for any form of learning. Too much instructions, guidance, corrections etc kill the curiosity and creativity. And slowly create disinterest and even fear of making mistakes. And that's a big hindrance for any kind of learning. You as a parent can widen his experience through books reading, giving him exposure to other things through travel, movie watching, drawing something with him etc. But do it in a very subtle way and not making it obvious that you are deliberately trying to change his way. Maybe slowly as his experiences widen, his creativity will include more things that he finds interesting.
As parents and educators, we can just provide more varied experiences to them through living. Depending on their individuality, they will pick what interests them. We can't control it and we should not control it. Especially, when it comes to Art because that's a self expression.

Yes, I will definitely engage myself in it. I see lots of things in Instagram and FB and wish to do them. I tried to start painting on the "fossilized ammonite" (Shaligram stone) but could not completed it because of lack of time.

Sounds good. Every little start counts. I know that time can be a real constraint when you are into a full time job. And there are so many obligations as such in a family life. Even I keep watching and collecting new ideas, but can't work on all because of time constraint. And I just end up doing only those that somebody orders for or ideas that I can do in my sessions. There is a huge list of what I would like to do for myself and my pleasure.

Absolutely, I also have lots of things on my wish list and one of such things is to buy a potters wheel and make some fancy pots but that requires some good skills. I will try it for sure in the future.

Last week we went to an event where there were workshops and stalls with many handmade items and crafts. There was a potter wheel too and they charged 70 Rs..there was a long queue. My daughter tried and liked it. I couldn't as many young children were waiting and getting restless. It will really need some practice to get the hang. It's not as easy as it looks.

Wow!! That sounds a great plan..I am very positive that such businesses with handmade products are always in demand. But to start a shop, you need a good collection in place and also a constant supply to meet the needs and demands of the customers.

Absolutely, you need to invest money to make a stock of the things. The shop near us is a big one having two floors and contains lots of unique things.
