Yesterday, I was coming from the market and was returning home by a bike. I passed from a street which was somewhat unknown for me. Three stray dogs were sitting in front of a house, they started barking at me. I was scared and stopped , they looked in to my eyes and went of. This is what I frequently observed on the roads and some people are bitten by them. Just out of curiousity I searched on Google to find out why they bark on people I found that For a number of reasons, including territorial defense, fear and anxiety, attention seeking, and to indicate hunger or distress, stray dogs will bark at passersby. They use barking as a means of warning people, alerting them to their presence, or expressing distress brought on by their difficult living surroundings.

One thing I understood that they are animals and they need to be loved and to be taken care of.

I'm scared of dogs especially the stray dogs in the beaches near home. Sometimes I threw theme fish to become their friends. This time once they see me they wag their tails and never bark at me. We need to be animal friendly so they will also come human friendly.

I love dogs as such. But I am very scared of stray dogs. They have their own reasons of barking as the responses above mentioned. But yes, they can be dangerous. It's their animal instinct and we can't trust them all the time. Here, in our city and across our country, there have been frequent incidences of stray dogs biting and quite a good number of cases have come where they have attacked the person and killed them. Few infants tragically have lost their lives to these fatal attacks by stray dogs. It's really something very concerning

Animals will attack for just two reasons, one they are preying for food, and two they are afraid and by attacking, they are trying to defend themselves. When you stare them they interpret this as a threat. That's why animals usually attack with people look at them.

Yes, they have their animal instinct to attack. They do things for survival, either to safeguard themselves when they sense some threat or to fill their hunger. In the recent case of street dog attack in our city, it was found that the two dogs were starving and didn't have food for days. They killed a infant in the stroller. It was tragic.

Yes, it's tragic. There have been many cases of dog attacks on people and that's the reason supreme court ordered to capture all stray dogs and put them in the shelters but then because of protest the order was taken back by the supreme court.

Yes. This has been making headlines recently and was really going viral on all social media platforms. I was in support of Supreme Court order. These dogs posses real threat . And having them in the shelters would have given them good life as well as made the streets safe too. Unfortunately, so many so called dog lovers were not happy. And they made the Supreme Court take back the order. Streets have to be safe.

We have such a dog lover in our neighbor who feeds stray dogs who bite passerby. She fights with the people who complain about these dogs. I always think if she is worried about those dogs then why don't she keep these dogs in her home.

I can relate to that. We have one such nuisance in our neighborhood too. She has invited so many cats in our car parking area too with all feeding etc. And they create a mess by playing on the roof of the cars and scratching it. One cat even bit a toddler while he was playing there. It is tough to give some sense to these people.

This is a problem because there are people who stand up in their support and the government also cannot do anything against them.

Stray dogs often bark at passersby out of fear, territorial instinct, or a need to protect themselves. I’ve observed that they may see unfamiliar people as a potential threat or competition for food and space, prompting vocal warnings.

@Sanjeev. While I am in support of a good treatment to animals, I strongly advocate for a safe street for human beings. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of tragic incidences of brutal attacks in recent times. And in some of them, it has lead to death too.
In the recent development, Supreme court has asked to leave stray dogs after sterilization. That might be effective for population control of these strays, but how much will it control the attacks is doubtful.

Stray dogs bark at passersby mainly to communicate or protect themselves. I’ve seen them react to strangers as potential threats, alert other dogs, or even try to get attention if they’re hungry or lonely.
