The best thing to have a control at you spending is to set a good budget that you can stick all around to it and have a robust saving habit that can enable you to raise a certain figure at the end of the month.

…i know it sounds fairly obvious but I look at what I want to buy but I then I take time to think whether it’s a good buy…that’s not to say that I don’t make purchases of things that are more ‘treats’…but if it’s not so much an essential or a good sense buy at that moment, I’ll delay until the sales…and I’ve stopped buying things in the sales that I don’t need to have… but just because they’re bargain buys…getting something for a great price and hugely reduced can be a bit of a spending trap as well...I also make a budget and aim to stay within it so that I have to make spending choices…

Most of the times some small spendings make you to spend alot of money without noticing, for example eating in restaurants, buying coffee and using your personal car; these spendings are small but in long run could spend a big portion of your money. If you could control your spendings then definitely you can have some savings and investments.

…I’ve noticed how busy some of our restaurants/coffee shops have become recently with people socialising and eating out etc…I wonder if that’s how it will be going forward into the future or whether it’s a post COVID restriction temporary thing as the National news is often dominated by high cost of living struggles…

I agree with you it is good to create a budget that you can work with and get things right without spending much.

Make a budget: Creating a budget is an excellent approach to keep track of your income and spending. It enables you to understand where your money is going and where you may cut back. Include all of your monthly costs, such as bills, groceries, and entertainment.

Prioritize your spending: Make a list of your goals and requirements and prioritize them. Before spending money on non-essentials, prioritize satisfying your fundamental necessities.

Avoid impulse purchases: Impulse purchases are a big cause to overspending. To avoid this, establish a shopping list and stick to it before you go shopping. Also, try to avoid purchasing while you are upset or worried.

I like the idea of Prioritizing ones spending: You just have to make a list of your goals and requirements and prioritize them.

I seldom buy unnecessary items. I always spend less than I earn. I have a savings target for each month, so that helps me to avoid overspending.

The truth is that we just enjoy spending money but the unfortunate thing is that we can easily go broke if we can't control it especially spending on unnecessary things. How do you curb yours?

I've definitely had issues in the past with not saving when I should have. It wasn't until my divorce that I started taking saving money serious. I also realized that I'm almost 37 years old and I don't even have a retirement (IRA) account set up at my bank. I don't want to still be working when I'm in my mid to late 60's.

I strive to create and stay within a budget. Also, "needs" always come before "wants." I used to splurge on unnecessary items, but since the pandemic began, I've learned to be practical.

I have always sat each month or week and set a budget and worked out my spending so that I do not go overboard but there are always times when you will see something and think "Oh it will be fine" and you grab it and it could have been a mistake and messed you up. I used to do that a lot and I had to be strict with myself.

I now tend to wait until nearly the end of the month, follow my budget, and then if I have some left, then I will get something that I wanted that wasn't in the budget.
