Getting pulled over by a cop when you're driving down the road enjoying your day can be a rather unpleasant experience, especially if you fear getting a ticket because you're broke.
If you get pulled over by the police, you don't want to be rude to the officer for obvious reasons. However, I don't think it's a good idea to act especially happy either because the officer knows darned well that you're not happy about being pulled over. Hence, if you act overly happy and overly friendly, the officer may feel irritated because he or she may find you to be acting too phony. And that might increase the chances that he or she will give you a ticket.
Psychologists say that if you're pulled over, the officer is less likely to give you a ticket for committing a traffic violation if you tell the officer that you should have known better than to make the mistake. If you instead try to defend yourself and make excuses, the officer is more likely to give you a ticket.
