Although David Nutt — the British psychiatrist and neuropsychopharmacologist specializing in the research of drugs — has seen his fair share of controversy, he appears to be a genius. With his team at Imperial College London, he is pioneering what is being hailed as a serious revolution in health: a drug that offers the positive effects of being drunk, but without the health risk, or the hangover.

But the new alcohol-mimicking drug alleviates much of that risk as it targets neurotransmitters in the brain directly, giving the user all the pleasures of drinking, without the toxins and risk of poor behavior and addiction.

Yeah , but will it be as cheap as regular boose ?

Yeah the big question is how much would this cost. I mean they are going to try to make money off this. That's why they come up with a lot of these breakthroughs. They do it to help, but in the end they are going to make money off it.

It will be expensive at first, and then get reduced. I would try it, but it's got to equal or be lower than the amount I would spend on a boozy night out.

" But Nutt says that his team in running into some opposition from the alcohol industry. Nutt was hoping to have their support, but the industry is instead shunning his work until it becomes a threat, he says. Speaking to the BBC, Nutt appealed for investors to come forward and support his groundbreaking research. "

no surprises here, just like the oil companies would not support research in fuel alternatives

Aww, but I like the poor behavior :( lol. I don't know.. so it would hit you all at once instead of gradually just getting there? Part of the experience is the actual drinking part of it. How would this affect my drinking games??

First they have nicotine patches, then electronic e-cigarettes and now synthetic alcohol. It seems a lot of futuristic inventions depicted in sci-fi movies and TV series like Star Trek may soon become reality (I'm referring to the synthehol from Star Trek).

I wonder what they will think of next?
