I was sitting on the couch and thought something had hit the house late this afternoon. House shook and there was a loud but muffled thump. Those who live where there are large snowfalls I would compare it to a large amount of snow falling off the roof.

I get a call from my sister about a half hour later asking me if I had the news on. Turns out a house blew up about a half mile away. Major explosion that obliterated the house. The gas company was working around the corner. No question they caused this. We had a similar thing happen about 10 years ago in a nearby city. I don't recall what the gas company did then but there was the same result. Any fireman will tell you that this was no normal gas explosion.

That is all

Carry on

I have seen 2 houses that had gas explosions. One was propane and the other natural gas. Destroyed them both completely. The propane one was next to one of our oil customers. It was funny to see the stove from the house in a tree a good 20ft. off the ground. They shook it down with the excavator that was cleaning up the debris.

There was a town in my state that suffered badly as a worker hit a gas valve {regulator}..many houses burnt etc exploded as the gas pressure was just to much ..I has always been under the impression that regulators down line would regulate the pressure in such an event....appears thats not always the case.

The fire in the other city a few years ago I don't recall the specifics of what happened. Other than it was blamed on the gas company. In that case the worker for the gas company was also killed. They kind of kept quiet about the results of the investigation other than it was caused by the gas company,

In this case I think more will be known. And I have a relative of a neighbor that is an investigator on the FD so probably will find out quite a bit.

heard one report today that there were 38 homes severely damaged. I aint buying it. One house next door got damaged badly and a lot of blown out windows. The news reporting last night was pathetic. All kinds of mistaken stuff stated along with tons of misplaced conjecture.

Most people are oblivious to how bad reporting is. When my uncle was murdered about 38 years ago I can't tell you how many mistakes the reporters made. Now with the 24/7 news cycle it is just that much worse as they scramble to get the scoops.

one person died. I think that was it. Nobody else got hurt which is remarkable given the houses being on pretty small lots and the time of day being 5pm

yes my uncles murderer did get caught. It was a few days after the murder. He was an escaped con if I remember correctly. I know he was up for parole years later and my aunt refused to attend and she just was not up to dealing with that even after all the years had passed.

Oh wow. My first thought went to "sonic boom" but that's probably just b/c I'm used to it here, LOL Sad that one person died, but it could've been much worse, for sure!

I saw the news about it. The homeowner died. Pretty tragic. :(

I'm glad they caught your uncle's murderer. Times like that you wish the laws were favorable to the eye for an eye concept in every state.

Oh... and ummm... How are you enjoying all of the snow where you live? :D
