As most of you know I am a fan of history. But those of you who do not let me give you a little background. I am 17 years of age and I am a senior in high school. I have always had a love of history. And that led me to take the class that has now changed my life. The class is known as History of Genocide. We went over the Armenian Genocide and now we are going over the Holocaust. My teacher showed us footage of what the liberators of concentration camps such as Dachu, Bergen-Blesen and other camps. To see people in such states, quite literally bone thin and stripped naked, buried in mass graves, burned to death when the Nazis realized that the end of the war was imminent.

But it wasn't just this. It was a new class started this year. Game Changers. Its about people who have changed the world. Mother Teresa, Gandhi and people who aren't well known, Abdul Sattar Edhi and others. This and History of Genocide has changed me in an incredible way and inspired me. I haven't put enough work in getting my physical condition better (I'm very weak in the lower body, I have bad balance and am handicapped with a condition known as Cerebral Palsy.) but this has changed me. I will work as hard as possible to be able to do this. I will go to places that need help. Places of incredible poverty and I will use my love of history to try and keep another genocide from occurring.

I've been wondering what I was going to do with my life and I feel like this is my purpose. I want to do this. I need to do this.

Just wanted to tell you all.

A huge and awesome task you've set for yourself, Ryder. Yes, work on your lower body, of course, but it seems that you should put even more emphasis on your brain and mouth. Naturally, anyone with cerebral palsy who is willing to do such things will inspire others to action. I recommend that you hone your vocal skills so that your words will inspire even more. Public attention helps to maximize success.

Willingness to act. You impress me. :thumbup

I speak perfectly fine and I'm as smart as anyone else. It just affects my motor abilities.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I really stated that badly, sorry. I meant hone public speaking skills, so that you can convince people with money to spare to give it to your cause. Bone up on statistics and other vital information that will help turn the skeptics. Craft some memorable sound bytes for when the opportunity presents itself. That sort of thing.

You don't strike me as a worker-bee waiting to be told what to do. People follow people of conviction. People will follow you. If you prepare yourself, you can be a more effective leader for your cause.

I think it's great that your school offers a class where students can learn this. It's a super opportunity that can only improve peoples' awareness and understanding of things.

Awesome...I wish I had paid more attention to that stuff by the time I caught interest in history school I was on my way out of school.
Now I read articles and such as they catch my interest.

I will never forget visiting a holocaust museum for the first time in my youth nor seeing the actual video footage of the findings of those horrific camps.

I am absolutely thrilled how much this has touched you and am joyous in knowing that you will be spreading your positive human empathy to the rest of the world. The type of hatred that caused such a horrendous event still exists in many parts of the world today but with you and those like you ... the day will come when it will end.

The best of hope to your noble undertaking.

I spent nearly 4 hours walking through the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC, just looking at everything and sitting inside the listening booths listening to people give their accounts of what happened w/ tears streaming down my face. It's a very VERY powerful place to visit and I highly recommend it to anybody.
