Wow, now I don't blame Walmart because I know bad employees exist everywhere but this show how bad it got in this case..

I would think this will be a blow to the already battered image ... :willy_nilly:

"Hi! This is why you don't buy an iPad from Walmart," a young man explains at the beginning of a YouTube video before turning the camera to his fellow Walmart associates, who are throwing — and occasionally dropping — some boxes.

"See? We like to throw s***," the man clarifies, while standing in the stockroom of a Walmart in Pikeville, Kentucky. "That's iPad number three we've thrown."

If they really were stupid enough to do that and to film and post it they should be fired. I don't believe any Union would try to protect them. I used to work in a parts storage room and just the way the boxes are crammed on that cart and on the shelves and overall sloppy look would not have been tolerated.

If it's not written in their contract (like Walmart employees are union LMFAO) that throwing product around isn't allowed, the union will protect them, then to go to arbitration, then the contract will have to be rewritten that product is not allowed to be tossed around.

Well like you said it's doubtful that they are union and I am sure that any contract must have clauses about damage caused by employees.

I suppose that Walmart could have some boxes that contain I-pads and others that contain nitroglycerin.
I bet the workers would handle the stuff carefully then.

I really hope you are joking here because no union would stick up for these clowns. I have had union cabinet workers fired for much less and the union has always stood behind our position.
The union reps do want clear documentation on what exactly happened, but if one of the union workers deserved to be fired, they were.

if it is obvious that they were throwing boxes on purpose I can not imagine that would be insufficient cause to fire

if not then they need to be fired anyway just because of being so stupid to film it :D

Unless unions have changed over the last 20 years, most of em are run by clowns who have less of a clue than management.

I'm only speaking for two unions that I worked for of course.

Well I disagree. Up here my former union would defend these employee's even though I believe that their firing would be upheld by a arbitrator.
In the Province of Ontario the Labour Laws mandate that the union defend " to the best of their ability " all union members.
It's called the " Union Members Right To Representation ".
Yes it's wrong but it's the law up here.
The only way around that is if the employee was fired or disciplined for something considered criminal.

Etu Joe? Didn't take you for a blanket statement kind of guy - you usually at least take a brief look at both sides of an issue.

You do realize your pay, weekends off and any benefits you get as a wage earning employee were won by unions don't you? Non-union companies mirror union companies pay and benefits to keep the unions out. When the last union is finally busted and the conservative dream is realized, try and contain your shock and awe when the boss comes and tells you to take a 50% pay cut for "the good of the company".

Walmart? Unions? If I said that to my dad he'd laugh or bitch about how stupid that sounds. He's a Teamster. He works for UPS.

You're correct, and I was wrong to make a blanket statement.

Worked in two unions after college and they were the most self serving, idiotic, power hungry organizations I had ever workd for.

One of the few times I almost got into a fight at work because someone told me NOT to do something because it wasn't "my job".

That said, a good friend and old customer of mine from up North came down to visit and he had mentioned that he pulls a lot of work from the unions on plumbing and HVAC contracts, he also said that the union work as vastly improved in quality since the 1950's and 60's, and they train their men very well.

My bad.

I've been in two unions myself and a management "orginization" presently. There is good and bad with unions to be sure. Trade unions like pipefitters, IBEW etc. provide the best technical training available. You and I both well know the sad state of incompetence in the residential and light commercial HVAC industry today - and that is a direct result of conservative defunding of vocational training nationwide. Union apprenticeships, which produce highly trained journeymen are few and far between these days. The best boiler, chiller and cooling tower installations are done with highly skilled union labor.

We have to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water.
