I have tried to avoid politics as a rule becauseI find my position on most issues is not popular. I do wish we had a legitimate choice for President outside the two party system. I believe the Electoral College has outlived its usefulness. I live in one of the fly over states. 100% of my state could vote for 1 candidate and it woud not matter if a candidate won 8 or 10 states by less than 10 votes.

I agree with doing away with the electoral college Fred. Where do I sign up for that vote I will gladly support ending that! I vote by absentee ballot so I already cast my vote. I am soooo sick of the political ads and hoopla. My hubby is disappointed he drew a split shift and can't watch all of the election of tv tonite. Me, I plan on curling up with a good book most of the nite myself. I do care who wins, just don't need to see the broo ha ha leading up to it.

Where I vote is Volunteer Fire Dept. The voting area is small less than 20' x 20'. Getting in and getting a ballot was easy once you navigated all the mud to get inside, they are adding on to the building. Great timing on doing construction. Once inside with ballot in hand I look around for somewhere to sit and fill out my paper ballot. All the seats are taken as everyone seems in deep concentration. Our great state decided to put 11 amendments to the state constitution on the ballot. Obviously most had not read them. Most of the amendments are written in legalize type jargon so who knows how those will turn out. I was the 130th voter. Looks like an above average turnout at my polling place.

I bowl tonight. I expect most of the results will be in before I get home.

I heard a story on NPR that they were trying to take out Jim Crow language from the Alabama constitution, is that what you were voting on?

I haven't voted yet but will be. New York isn't a flyover state, but your vote still doesn't matter all that much because the democrats always win. One year, we had an election for governor and nobody knew who the republican candidate was. This year, Kersten Gillibrand is up for re-election in the senate and I have yet to hear anything about the republican candidate, whoever he/she might be.

One of the amendments is related to the language in our state constitution in reference to segregated schools. There are a total of 11 amendments to be voted on. Our state constitution if I am not mistaked is the most amended constitution in the U.S.

I've just come back from voting. Long paper ballot, two sides, completely full.

President, and all the usual Federal things--a bunch of random state people (stuff like, regents for the big Universities), and then the local things such as Prosecutor, School Board members, Village Council type stuff.

Then, in Michigan we had 6 amendments on the ballots as well. Energy, collective bargaining, etc.

And then a local tax one for our local animal shelter.

so it probbaly takes time to do all of this?

i can see that putting some folk off

Once I was able to sit down with my ballot I did not take long. I knew who I was voting for in the races and had written down how I wanted to vote on the amendments.
