Can't calm dog down

The cleaning lady came today and I asked my mother in law to tell her NOT to lock Riley up, because she can't handle it.

I've been home over half an hour and she's *still* screaming. She gets excited when we get home, but this is incredibly unusual.

We've gone for a walk, we played with her foxy, we went potty, we got water, we've snuggled...

And I can't get her to stop and it's breaking my heart.

Help?

sometimes you just have to let the dog do her stuff. don't allow it and she will be worse for the ware...so...(my dog loves to bark at anyone on our turf (my brother is putting a new roof on the house) and Porkchop is barking his head off) but just allow it, they are going to bark anyway....

It's just hard, because she is literally screaming. I swear the noises she makes... sometimes they are super cute, but this one... It's urgent sounding and she seems scared and I don't know what to do.

I went and got her a treat, we played feisty... Nothing.

When I got home, all the doors were closed and her bed was propped on the wall. She couldn't even get to her bed or her kennel.

If you're acting upset about it, she might be feed off of you, which in turn is making you more upset. Maybe if you talk to her in a calm voice and kind of go about your normal day while talking to her, she'll get the message and calm down.

No for the car... She hates it. I'll have to get Matt to go with me one day and record her. She makes funny noises.

I think she might be feeding off me.

We got some belly time while we were playing.

She'll sit on my lap and let me pet her, but after a bit she starts up again. She has stopped screaming though. Now she's just fussy.

This. You giving her attention when she's in that state only tells her that's how she should react and she will continue to do so. If you ignore her until she calms down, she will calm down. As much as we'd like to thing dogs are children... they are not. You'd seriously benefit by watching The Dog Whisperer.

I'm fucking furious. The bitch locked my dog in her kennel. You CANNOT do that to her and how anyone could listen to that and not give a damn is the worst sort of person. And all because Riley was going room to room with her.

I'm seeing red right now. I actually snapped at my mother in law. I am so unbelievably fucking pissed off.

And not that I am in any position to be asking favors, but the only thing I have asked for since we've been here is for MIL to tell her cleaning lady to not lock the dog up.

I have held my tongue every time she feeds the dog people food, until we had tummy issues. I have not said anything when she baby talks Riley while she's begging. I have not said anything about her undoing all my attempts at getting Riley to be independent. But this my breaking point.

Sorry, perhaps me, but I'm missing something here.

Do you normally crate the dog?

Is the dog being crated regularly by someone else in your mothers home while someone else cleans the house and no one other than the cleaning person is there?

Could you elaborate more on the situationt?

Sounds like Riley does suffer from separation anxiety (don't laugh, it does exist with dogs).

She seriously does. We finally got her to stop jumping at the door when we leave. I had so many scratch marks on the apartment door...

But no, we don't usually lock her in. she'll go in willingly for a treat, she'll go very slowly, stopping every couple steps, if she's in trouble, and she's taken to sleeping in there after she snuggles for a few minutes. But I never lock the door and walk away. I can't deal with sound.i'm afraid she's going to give herself a heart attack.

why have the crate then? take it down so the cleaning lady doesn't have the option.

Ooh, good idea. She'll jump on the door if she gets locked in the room, but surely the lady won't let her do that. I'm a little scared she might put her outside, but Riley likes sunning. And if the door gets messed up, maybe mil will say something to the cleaning lady.

Not mine. She's kind of a bitch. She'll act like she's interested, but unless she's gotten comfortable around the other dog, she freaks. She used to have a puppy sister, too. Not really sure how she managed that.
