I'm just going to say this one bit, and then I'm not going to go back and forth with this because I don't feel like causing forum drama... but who the hell cares that parents had young children there? The movies are supposed to be a fun & safe place to enjoy yourself - at ANY time of the night, for ANY age.

And I'm not just picking on you - I've been seeing this everywhere and it's BS.

I absolutely see your point
but get this
the extremely loud sounds and vibrations and
if any shreeking crying or sounds of terror
and the flickering light are lot of input for a new born
it can be altering

If a 3 month old gets out of the house and gets run over by a car, do you blame the driver of the car or the parents?

Anyway you cut it, kids don't belong at a midnight movie showing.

Is the driver recklessly speeding in a residential area that has signs posted warning that there are small children present? If so, then I'd 100% blame the driver.

Well you also have to take into consideration the time and how big the child is. I mean if its late at night and the kid can barely be seen is it still his fault? And plus I think the driver would feel horrible anyway, its not like he planned to run over the kid if he did. Sorry not trying to rant but I like explaining every side to a story.

I've heard many people argue that guns are essential for self-defence. Strangely, although guns are freely available, these mass killings occur with monotonous regularity, and there's never a good guy with a licenced and legal firearm when you need one.

Qualifier - I'm a life NRA member and own a crap load of guns and ammo. But these stats are appalling. And everyone knows the guns didn't kill anyone by themselves - just thought this was a bit sobering to contemplate, assuming the stats are accurate - and they probably are:

and a ton of those were gang related murders with guns that were acquired illegally. The criminals are going to acquire guns regardless, quite unfortunately.

I salute you sir, for being a firearm owner who has the courage to recognise that there is a downside to mass gun ownership. Trying to minimise the deaths of 12 innocent moviegoers and thousands of other decent civilians by trying to argue that gang on gang crime is somehow less offensive is just pathetic.

If you're referring to me, please show me where I argued that gang on gang crime is less offensive? I merely stated that a large number of the gun related deaths involve gangs and illegally acquired firearms. I was focusing on the fact that criminals will find ways to acquire weapons regardless of gun laws. Additionally, one of the countries that John has listed in the Brady graphic, Finland, has a higher non-gun related homicide rate than the United States does... which tells me that if someone wants someone else dead, they'll find a way to make it happen.

By questioning why kids where there at midnight, didn't mean to imply that the shooting was the parents' fault. its 100% the shooters fault

For me the small children and the shooting are mutually exclusive. I too question the parenting of having a three month old and 6 year old at that particular movie at any hour.

Another tired gun-nut excuse....it's too difficult to fix. And yet the American government is willing to spend billions on groping every single passenger who wants to board a plane in the States based on the events of one day over a decade ago? 9/11 was indisputably bad. What made it bad was that nobody expected that many people to be willing to die for their beliefs in a single coordinated attack. Murder by firearms has been a problem in countries that allow mass ownership of handguns and automatic weapons since the damn things were invented. Compare the amount of willpower and effort that has gone into defending Americans from external terrorism since 9/11 with the pitiful efforts that have been made to combat internal terrorism since the Columbine massacre. The lack of will in certain quarters to accept that Americans are capable of, and responsible for, cleaning up the mess that they have created for themselves is just plain sad.

"We just moved here from New Mexico," he said. "We have to go out. We have to do things. You don't think you're going to get shot. You're just living your life."

From the 25 year old parents who took a 3 month old and a 4 year old to a movie at midnight.

Part of the problem the US has is that you don't need a license to have children. Just pop em out and do what you want to do:thumbup

You called the wrong person a gun nut... I don't even own one. But there you go again, as per the usual, making assumptions and putting words into peoples mouths. I love how you failed to address a single thing I said, and instead decided to rant about the TSA and 9/11. Amazing. :24: Also, the United States does not allow the mass ownership of automatic weapons as you seem to be implying. If someone wants you dead, they're going to find a way to make you dead, regardless of the weapon. Los Angles has tough gun laws, and it's pretty much impossible to get a CCW there... yet they have the one of the highest rates of gun related violence in the entire country.

Guns do not kill people, people kill people.

And that makes you 'not a gun nut' ....how? If you're too chickenshit to accept that the only way to resolve a problem is to address the root cause, don't waste my time trying to make excuses.
