Fourteen people were killed and at least 50 others wounded early Friday when a gunman opened fire at a midnight screening of the summer blockbuster "The Dark Knight Rises" near Denver, authorities and witnesses said.

Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates told reporters that 10 people died at the scene and four others died after being taken to local hospitals. At least 50 other people were injured, Oates said, including a six-year-old girl.

WHY???? WHY are people so horrible?? :(

(rhetorical question - no answer needed)

I just can't believe the crazy shit some people do - where do you get off thinking it's OK to take another person's life? Let alone 14? Do people have to be scared of going to the movies now?? UGH this shit just boggles me.

I sat here reading about that myself. The guy is obviously not stable. I expect the blame to all be placed on the gun. I feel for the families effected by his lunacy.

I've heard many people argue that guns are essential for self-defence. Strangely, although guns are freely available, these mass killings occur with monotonous regularity, and there's never a good guy with a licenced and legal firearm when you need one.

Just from what I have read this morning this guy was trying imitate the bad guy in the film. He even had explosives in his apartment.

News report says the guy was 24 year old white male. He was standing outside the theater wearing a bullet-proof vest, when the police arrived, standing beside his car.

Sorry, I couldn't help but find it somewhat funny that the news reports I read that it was noted that the gunman was not thought to be linked to an Islamic terrorist group.

I guess we're past the old days when people were just plain nuts.

I'm grateful that I've never had to use a sidearm for self defense as a civilian. But, it's nice to know that I at least have a fighting chance if I do come across a nut job.

just think of all the illegal things you could do in this world killing someone would really be at the bottom of the list
he could have stole a really nice car and had fun driving wildly till he got caught and still wouldn't be in as much trouble I mean really.

I have a conceal carry permit but if I was going to our local theater for a movie I would not be packing. I am sure I am the rule more than the exception.

Ironically Fred, If I was going to the movies in North Carolina, it would be illegal for me to conceal carry into a movie theater even WITH a conceal carry permit.

So does anyone know if the movie was any good? The story doesn't mention that
