The first time it really hit home was when I saw a high school letterman jacket with "03" on it. It actually took me a couple of seconds to realize that "03" stood for "2003" which blew me away.

What's really been blowing me away lately is realizing that what I paid for a four year degree well over 20 years ago is NO WHERE near today's college tuition.

Isn't that the truth. In 1977 a quarter's tuition was $165 the first Fall term. My son has books that cost more than that.

My loan ran me $186 a month for less than 10 years for a four year degree.

It seems like what jobs are actually paying compared to what college nowadays, it doesn't make much sense to go in the hole for a degree.

As I tell my son, trade school is where it's at.

You are so right there...I agree.

I have friends that are anywhere from $50 - $70k in debt because of student loans and working minimum wage jobs because they can't get anything with their degrees..it's horrible.

Then I see kids that took a trade and are working here with me making upwards of $80/hour...if they got a loan it was paid off in a couple of months.

I agree. I paid my way through college for 2 years without debt and make over triple what my friends make who went to University who are like $40 K in debt. I can't imagine. It is really sad actually.

yo. where do i get this job that pays $80? sign me up.

I agree with the college tuition though. A school in the town I work in is the second most expensive school in the country. Even with financial aid, kids are building themselves a huge mountain of debt. I can't fathom being out of school with 100-150k in debt like some students are.

I work in an office and do locksmithing/access control stuff. It's pretty boring but good for a student.
