Hard to believe that it was over 20 years ago that all that happened. Crazy!!! Anyway, 47 is awful young. RIP, Rodney King. The man was not w/o his faults, obviously, but he did seem to have changed his path since that incident. Hell, how many of us (those of us that are old enough to be able to say it) can say we're not a hell of a lot smarter than we were at 25???

I hope most can say that, I know I certainly can. I cringe when I think of some of the mistakes I made back then.

RIP...the reports don't paint a very good picture...drinking all day, smoking weed, losing it in the back yard....it's too bad.

The above is a sad story. The guy in the article sold me my carpet for my basement.

Had a buddy die the same way when he hit 43. That was sad as well considering he had a very successful career as a sports writer.

Mr. King was far from sad. He had choices to make and he made them, and he had to live with them like everyone else does. It's the people who don't get to make their choices that I feel sincerely sad for.

Hopefully Mr. King is in a better place.

Didn't read the entire article, it's too difficult. I lost an aunt to ALS 13 years ago and she was bright, funny, a phenominal mother and just someone that always made people happy. She died in December (13 years ago), I went to visit her to say "good bye" in Sept. It is something that will stay with me forever, so, so sad to see how that disease destroys a person's body.

I've known quite a few people, sadly, that have been taken by ALS - she was the first. I have a very good friend that was diagnosed in March with it, as well. He's 51 and has a 4 month old daughter...he won't see her first birthday.

Apologies, I'm not trying to hi jack the thread, but just reading about the guy in the article I posted made me feel sick to my stomach for him.

I can't fathom losing someone you love to ALS.

When I read about someone like Rodney King, for better or worse, just another senseless death at the persons own hand.

Hey, no worries, I see your point entirely. I'm soft-hearted and feel for anyone that can't get their life together, I know they *can* do something about it, but to them, it seems impossible and that's sad to me.

I hope you never have to experience such a loss.

according to the radio this morning he got a settlement for 3 million dollars fro the beating he took
he bought himself and his mom a modest house and had since then been "trying" to turn certain aspects of his life around...

in regards to his "fame" he got it from being beat on camera... not by having money or being good looking lol

he mentioned that he was at times dissapointed on the way people looked and talking to him about his speech in front of the courthouse where the policemen were acquitted of the charges... the speech when he asked everyone "Can't we all get along?

He said he was disappointed at the way people would come up to him and ask him " WTF did you say that for" as if it was an unreal expectation for all races to get along...

At any case, he had his struggles with the law, his own people and himself... hope he is in a better place.

sucks he had to go the way he did.
may he rest in peace

Nope...never realized he counted as "famous" actually. But either way...this isn't the debate area, so I don't much care. Just being honest.

That was my whole point in the beginning. Do something stupid and get publicity and the mediahogs are at your doorstep and put your face everywhere. It's pathetic. The man was not a upstanding citizen who just caught a bad rap.

Actually, the funny part of your joke, which i guess make s reference to the idea that black people cannot swim is that he was an avid swimmer... since childhood.

Honeslty, i am indifferent as to his story, background, brushes with the law, etc... he was a person like you and i and to die under water is something that i wish upon noone.... except for Nicholas Cage because he sucks as an actor

I caught that; I chose to ignore it. I'm not an idiot. Artificial fact? Seriously? I swore I heard the dude was a drug addict on television.

Haha not just this thread Dana. It pertains to ninety percent of your posts. When your brain catches up to you your gonna get it. I am done trolling with you for today. Back to the topic on hand. How we should feel bad for Rodney King.

I think there are far worse people than Rodney King and that 47 is pretty young to die. I won't lose any sleep at his passing but I am not rejoicing either..... He did not ask to get beat up by the Cops......, was he a model citizen....nope, was he a horrible citizen, nope.
