The war against piracy continues :ninja

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17894176

BPI's chief executive Geoff Taylor said: "The High Court has confirmed that The Pirate Bay infringes copyright on a massive scale."Its operators line their pockets by commercially exploiting music and other creative works without paying a penny to the people who created them.
"This is wrong - musicians, sound engineers and video editors deserve to be paid for their work just like everyone else."

Too many alternatives, too many ways around that 'block' too. As Springers said - piracy is big. I don't think it's feasible to stop it.

I seem to recall that sales of blank cassette tapes were going to kill the music industry................

Good point. The charts over here now include figures for downloads, because people are so much more likely to download a song from iTunes than buy it on a CD. For a start, it's way cheaper!

The music and film industries should be looking at ways to harness the power of internet downloads, not look to stop them. Piracy will happen even if they come up with the cheapest possible way of people getting their entertainment, but you can prevent some of it by at least making affordable options available. At the moment I have no desire to pay a monthly subscription to a limited selection of movies, which is what most places seem to offer.

Plus, piracy hurts the record labels, not the artists. So I don't lose too much sleep over it. They've been needing to be brought back down to Earth for a while now.
