The closest thing I ever had to a hometown was the town where I went to high school (where I spent most of my time "in one place" growing up). That said, I have absolutely no desire to EVER move back to the coal regions Pennsylvania because I thought it was a depressed area).

Today, eating lunch at a local BBQ shop, I overheard a couple of teenagers talking about how they hated the county they live in (where I now live) and how they all can't wait to get out of school and leave the area. Funny, they sounded just like me when I was a teenager, and now that I'm pushing 50, having what some would call a career, and actually have what I think is a nice place to live, and hope to finish raising my family here. Funny thing is if I were those kids living in this same county as I do now, I'd probably feel the same way they do. Time apparently does make a difference on ones perspective.

Made me think, how many here have "moved away" from home and have a longing to move back?

For me, my home is now where I'm at, and hopefully before my dad passes on, he'll come live with me, and I never will move back to what I consider my "hometown".

I heard somewhere or read something that said when young people say "I want to get out of this town" they're just expressing their desire to be independent. So, no matter where you live, people will always say that. Seems like an interesting theory to me.

I once thought my hometown was "home". But the less time I spend there the less I feel that way.

I still live about 45mins from where I grew up. I never had a desire to leave my family, and now that I have kids I'm so so glad I'm still here.

I don't live far from "home"; only about an hour away. However, I would love to move back. I never considered myself a city girl, but I think I have learned that I am definitely not a country girl. I hate being so far from everything and everyone.

I've never left "home"...and I'm trying to fix that now. I've lived in Middle Georgia all my life. My family, my friends, and my roots are here...but it's time for me to start fresh somewhere new.

How about Nashville? ;)

I actually had considering moving to Tennessee at one point. I think it's absolutely beautiful up in the Tennessee mountains. But, I don't know...what's the life expectancy for a Bulldog fan in the midst of Titans Country??? :24:

My team teacher is a Bulldog fan and she seems to have been living here comfortably for several years now. However, she is about to move back to GA, so take that as you will. Lol.

Perhaps we could work out an exchange program??? :24:

Right now my head is telling me to go for it in Boston...but I'm not jumping into anything willy nilly, so I'm still thinking it through.

Home is relative... I've lived in this town 20 years

Dad was one of 11, mom was one of 12. Dad's parents came to the US around 1903, Mom's parents to the U.S around the 1920's. Both my parents lived in small coal mining towns about 15 miles apart. Both parents left home going into the service, and only moved back by family after my father retired (and when my dad was in SE Asia for 4 years, lived in that one coal mining town as a child as well). Only knew one grandmother, but had family living in the original homes my grandparents moved into, so for me, "home" will always be those two coal mining towns (where most of my relatives are buried as well).

I've always felt home is where the heart is.

Longest place I've ever lived in one place is where I live right now with my own family, going on 8 years.

I've found that I love visiting "home" and seeing relatives and old places, but staying there for more than a couple of days, I'm just ready to bug out.

Lived in this part of the country for many years. Raised two kids here. The idea of packing up and shipping everything halfway around the world just to go back to the place where I was conceived is not an option.

Born and raised in my town :) always loved it here, visited other places but I've only ever been one other place I thought I could stand to live, and that was Stratford-Upon-Avon.

No intentions of moving either. My parents live here too, and my sisters.

I used to think my home town had me on a string. I grew up in a small town in Manitoba. I moved to Vancouver right after high school to attend UBC. I moved back home two years later. Then I landed an internship on a thoroughbred farm in Kentucky and I thought I was set. Four years later I was back in my home town. glavauzid.png Apparently third time's a charm, though. I moved to my current location, one province over, four years ago and it looks like I'm staying. :tooth

I really don't have anything against my home town. It's where I grew up and I'll always be a prairie girl at heart. The problem is it's a small farming community and there really isn't anything there in terms of a fulfilling career for me. I also never attracted any guys there so there isn't anything like that holding me there. (Don't hold it against the area. I've never attracted guys in any place that I've lived. :p) The only reason I wanted to leave was because there was never a future there for me.

This. Cliche it may be - but so darn true.
