Unfortunately, the officer was just doing his job. It sucks...and yeah, I'd be mad as hell if it was MY dog that was shot...but going on the information he was given (based on the story presented), he acted appropriately in order to protect himself.

Who knows whether or not this dog was carrying a weapon? Did this dog follow him? What was the dog doing there anyway?

Too many unanswered questions. We can't even hypothesize as to what happened. This officer has rights. Stand your ground. Self defence. :p

I suppose he was doing his job but that article does seem to have a bias towards the chap and his (ex)dog.

Asking him about his girlfriend (in reference to next door) just after he had shot the dog was a bit harsh though.

Too many unanswered questions indeed! Who do you believe?

On one hand you have the officer "Dog was continuing to attack..."

On the other - Paxton "He was barking and challenging - not attacking. I told the officer he wouldn't bite".

A mystery to be sure. sherlock.png

I don't think so. After all, as far as the officer knew he was confronting a man who had just been seen choking a woman. The officer acted in good faith based on the information he had at the time. An officer who lets his or her guard down is an officer likely to be listed on ODMP.org, unfortunately.

The only reason he apologized was because people started showing interest in what he had done and he and his department got scared
He not once contacted the person that owned the dog until then
I HATE COPS

Do US police officer wear pepper spray ( ours do ) like postmen ( ours do ) to ward off animals ?

Here there are only certain breeds of dogs that police officers are allowed to shoot if they come after them right off the bat. They use pepper spray on them and tell them that's what protesters feel like :D.. Pitbulls and Rottweilers only because they are the dog of choice for drug dealers and growers.. Not because they are bad dogs by breed..

I remember a party involving drugs and the dog being shot.. It seemed they were more upset that the dog was shot then the fact there were kids ( toddlers ) around.. :eek IJS

Good point about the pepper spray, that or a taser could have been helpful if he had them on him at the time.

I know if they shot my dog it would be personal
especially that innocent

who ever says he was just doing his job is a freaking idiot
the dog did not have to be shot at all
the guy did not have proper cause to ever pull his gun on the guy in the first place
best thing for them to do is full admit and don't cover it up
and provide compensation for this man and offer if would like to press charges
and for GOD sake offer the man another dog with a high value.
not just say sorry , but there isn't shit you can do about it.

COPS ARE ABOVE THE LAW

Depends on the department, really, but all the departments I know of DO carry pepper spray. I don't think I've ever seen it used on a dog, though.

obviously they guy made a huge mistake
and they are trying to cover it up

Your dislike for police officers is clouding your judgment. If they wanted to cover it up, they've done a piss poor job.

I just watched a video of them in a conference where they are saying that once they give more evidence then they will prove that there was probable cause to kill the animal
