Yes, the real bitch our founding fathers had was keeping the minority safe from the majority, and the majority safe from the minority.

Unlucky for internet forums that sometimes ignorance does prevail, such as in the Clancy case.

That ,Sir, is an interesting contention........care to expand?

...... it was actually a really broad, general statement that I made.

I guess what I should have said is that, some nations, where the government disarmed the populace, allowed the people to become subjected to their government. Nazi Germany is one example.

I'm not a big gun nut ... but I do believe that it is a dangerous road to take when a government disarms the people ... it leaves the people overly-reliant on the government then ...

I was hoping that you'd qualify your comments, well played.:thumbup

My next question is, Is a country that doesn't disarm its population automatically a better nation?

I'm liking this discussion much more than the one on atheism.:D

Of course, there's a lot of 'information' put out by both the NRA and the anti-gun lobby, but please bear with me, I'd rather get honest opinions from street level than from the ballistics evangelists.

Would I be correct in assuming that you own firearms?

LMAO! Ah crap ... on the hot seat.

I agree with you that there are "nuts" on both sides for sure.

I own a 12 gauge shotgun. Just recently got it for duck hunting. ... My cousin loves to cook and invited me out on a duck hunting trip and .... DAMN was that good duck! Never really gave much thought to hunting before that ...

Closest I've ever come to guns is spending time at the range with friends. It's really hard to get licensed for handguns here, and everything else is quite time-consuming and regulated.http://www.police.govt.nz/service/firearms

Had the chance to fire off a few rounds with a pair of Ruger 44/40 single action sporting pistols. Damn, that felt good, and more than a little sexy, but the dream ended at the range gate. It's just too much trouble.

My cousins in NZ have mentioned that the gun laws are pretty tough there.

LOL! Absolutely!

IMHO that IS the problem.

People who are "hardcore" anti gun usually don't have a clue about firearms and then you have people who if given the option between keeping ALL of their firearms and going to "hell" OR giving them and live in a paradise would rather go to "hell" with them.

Heck, you should see the crap I could get if I even suggest more training should be required for people to own firearms in some U.S states:24: (each one of the 50 states has various requirements on their "gun laws", some way too easy IMO and some next to impossible).

Guns are nothing more than tools, for better or worse, a tool designed to kill.

That said, I like to keep my firearms due to people like Clancy.

Some people just need a boot in their ass to make them see the other side of some things.

That being said, I want a gun! lol
I'm at least letting my boys learn early so they know what to do for safety lessons when they are old enough. :)
