We're getting all stocked up with new gear for camping and fishing for the summer.

Last week I ordered a new 8 man 3 room tent, a nice little kit to go along with it that has extra stakes, mallet and couple other things that will come in handy.
I ordered the boys their very own fishing tackle box. It was super cheap and comes with 136 pieces in a 3 tray box. Can't beat it! And yea if the pieces are cheap, it's still worth it.
Today I went and got each of us a new ugly stik! Mine, of course, is the ladyfish ugly stik (it had pink on it! woot! haha), and the boys got youth poles. Yellow and red were their choices. Ya, Scheels had some pretty awesome deals going on today with their fishing gear! The boys are super excited to get back out and do some fishing. I think we'll be starting this weekend, thank goodness I already took care of my fishing license!

What are your favorite things to do during the summer? Are you doing anything special to be all ready for specific activities?

Sorry to those of you sliding into the winter months! :)

I love fishing and intend to go in the morning. Ugly stiks & lightning rods are great quality for the price. Almost all mine are Bass Pro Shop rods. I am going bass fishing but hoping for some crappie too. What you bought your boys is a great starting point for them to build from. Great for you to get them their own..

My first rod and reel was a Southbend my mom bought me with trading stamps about 1965 or so.

Yea, we love fishing too.
I've never owned my own rod before, but have been able to use some nice ones over the years because I've always borrowed from my parents and grandparents so didn't have a need to buy them. LOL
I just decided it would be nice to have our own and if we still need something better I'll borrow again haha. :)
The price was the best. Heck I was able to spend under $120 for three rods and some line. That's an awesome deal!
Now if only my fisherman skills would come back from my younger days!

Do you still have your first rod? That would be so awesome if you did!

We spend our summers out here trying to cool off in the pool, dreaming of cooler days. :( I wish we had enjoyable summers like some of the more northern states.

At this point it would be an antique. The rod lasted longer than the reel. I caught a lot of fish on it. Mostly bream. I bought my kids a good quality set ups without breaking the bank when they first started fishing. I never bought them the cartoon character rods & reels. Those are really just toys.

I've already gone through 25 gallons of gas for the mower, through 5 fill ups for the weed wacker, and had to sharpen the chain saw two times.

Summer fun.

Sounds like you and the boys are going to have a fun time this summer, Anita.

As for what I like to do in the summer.... bonfires, camping, hiking, mini vacations and doing the whole sightseeing thing.

I'm saving up the money for two mini vacations this summer. I can't wait! :)

I haven't wet a line in almost 3 years. Always seems to be something getting in the way. My ice auger, portable fish house, heater, and gear has a TON of dust on them. My wife and I promised ourselves we would make time to go fishing this summer. I bought our license and I added furbearer to mine. Might go up home and see if I can spot a mountain lion. :p

I miss going to the beach and fishing with my grandfather, using cane poles he made. I'm headed back to Florida in a few weeks so the beach is definitely on my list of things to do and my dad is already planning taking my son fishing (sadly, no cane poles).

I did the little character polls when they were little, but that was just to get them in the habit of fishing. I wanted them to be involved and get to experience it right away. I knew they couldn't really catch anything but it was good practice for casting and reeling in. :) But otherwise they were pointless lol.

I'm so going to miss bonfires whenever I wanted to have them. We are in an apartment now so that wouldn't go over well lol.
We are saving up for camping vacas, but we've already taken a spendier, well spendier to me, vaca. :)

I can't WAIT to go to the beach again. I wish I could spend all summer at the beach with a good book, a cold beer or cocktail, and the sound of waves crashing in the background. I love dozing in the sun, feeling my skin grow warm... and then dipping in the ocean for a swim when it gets too hot.

I really should've made the move to California when I had the chance :(

Today was oh so fun....*sarcasm alert*
I went and got some more gear and a new tackle box for myself.
I set up the poles only to realize the line on then was too weak. Since I wasn't in town to just have a machine put the line on I did them myself. Two of them I didn't put enough on and the third I put the damn line on backwards hahahahaha. The backwards line was an easy one. Damn does taking the line off the reels take forever!
But no really it was a pretty good day. No fishing done yet though.

I did also buy the boys both new BB rifles so we did some shooting for the afternoon.

Hard to tell how much line to put on a reel. Harder on a flyreel with backing. Does take longer to remove line than add line. I love shooting b-b guns.

Yea it was tough to tell, but in the end they all work like they are supposed to. Mine and Michael's lines have a bit more line than Aiden's as Aiden hasn't got a tough cast yet anyways. I figure when he gets that down I'll redo the line.

The BB guns are great, but I suck with my aim anymore. I never have my glasses when I need them and my astigmatism throws off my sighting. BLAH

I bought a b-b gun scope for mine. Really helps me aim as my eyesight is not what it used to be.
