I was watchin some doomsday prepper type show the other day and someone on there mentioned that fish antibiotics are the same as human ones just called something a little different, and considerably cheaper. Anyone else ever hear this? After I heard it I looked it up online and apparenly this is something that is pretty known, I guess you learn something new everyday. So how about it would you ever use a fish antibiotic if you knew what you needed and didnt want to waste the money to go to the dr to get a script? (I might be watching to much tv lately I think also lol)

It makes sense, I suppose.

You can give dogs and cats smaller doses of human medicines--like Benadryl. And a lot of the medicines that animals are given for things are very similar, if not exactly the same as what we are given.

Would it be the same dosages? I mean, fish are somewhat smaller than humans. Would you have to be taking twenty fish pills to get the same effect as one human one? :ninja

So the scale of dosage is less?

My parents give their cat human insulin so I can see getting fish antibiotics. But I rather know from a doctor that I actually need antibiotics that self-diagnosing.

I'm not surprised in the least. But I'm sure the dosages are different. But I'm curious as to why fish need antibiotics....

I was looking you can get for example amoxocillin in 250mg or 500mg capsules so thats not that off from what a human would take twice daily depending on the infection. Im sure there is somewhere you can look that up also. You can find anything on the www these days lol

I did not know that! Very interesting. I think it's fine to use it since it's the same thing, but I'd ask a doctor before trying anything. I don't trust online information much, I read online that toothpaste makes your pimples go away, so I put toothpaste on a pimple and woke up in the morning with a crater in my face :( So just be careful

Yeah it was mint toothpaste, but I read that any kind of toothpaste could be used. That's why I now take caution with online advice !
