He's lovely. I love him. But I like being my own person away from him. And I'm sure he feels the same.

It has got to a stage, where I have had to basically kick my man out the door, to go on a lads night out! He needs too have that breathing space and be a lad.

I go out when I want, we would never stop each other.
Just because you are together, it shouldn't mean, you can't have a life. No one should tell anyone what they should and shouldn't do. Within reason that is!!!
There is a difference in taking the piss and going out too much, and expecting the other half not too. Or just plain, not spend time with the other half.

If you give leeway, it makes for a much healthier n happy relationship!

Haha mine has started going over to his mates on a Saturday afternoon to watch the Formula One, I'm already planning all the TV I can catch up on and the housework I can get done while he's not underfoot

There's a Canadian Come Dine With Me? I watch the UK and Aussie versions so I'll have to watch this one...

I usually watch One Born Every Minute on 4od. I get really into it and even cheer when it's all ok in the end.

I think controlling a partner is a sure fire way to get exactly what you fear the most- cheating, disrespect- because most adults don't want to be reigned over.

A little bit of mutual jealousy and a desire to just be together works for plenty, though.

My situation is weird- we don't have friends we hang out with so this never comes up...I have school and work acquaintances but we don't hang out, and he is not too social.

Seriously, if either of us wants to go out with the guys/gals, we do ask... but not in a "can I get your permission" way... more like a "oh btw I want to do this, but did we already have plans that I forgot about" way. If I ever felt like I wasn't spending enough time with my friends because of him, I'd probably re-assess the relationship.

It has taken me a while to get into this mindset due to past controlling relationships, on my part and theirs, but now I'm a firm believer in the friends night out. I say friends instead of girls/boys since my SO has male and female friends, and typically his nights out include both, as do mine occasionally.

I also try and make sure I take one night a week so that I can just veg out and do the things I like to do and we get some separation. I've found it makes us appreciate our time together a lot more.
