My morning started out just fine. got up, dressed, about to leave for a movie. Then we got a visit and got a written warning from Animal Control about Emma! some guy who DOES NOT live on our street or even in our neighborhood, called and complained that she chases him as he rides his bike down the road.

SERIOUSLY!?!? a little 10lb weenie dog that runs after your bike for a few yards!?!? FUCKING ASSHOLE!! we've had her for 2 fucking years. NO ONE has a problem with her. not the neighbors, not the other people we see walking/riding through the neighborhood, not even the cops who live IN the neighborhood have a problem with her! 95% of the time she stays in the yard. the other 5% she's chasing squirrels in the neighbors yard or a car down the road or just lounging IN the road

we live outside the city limits. NO LEASH LAW. granted, the road is city (the city/county line is literally in our driveway and yard), but im not going to keep her on a leash because one person is scared of her for the 20 seconds he's riding by the house!! fucking bull shit!!

Im not saying we're above the law or anything, but come on!! look at the situation! makes no fucking sense!! if it was such a problem, the cops who live in the neighborhood would have told us something, the guy who works for the city would have told us something. she's NOT a problem except to this fucktoid asshole.

id understand a bit more if she was a 100+ lb dog, or if we were completely in the city limits. she's never attacked or bitten anyone. not even the kids who rough house with her. she just takes it and plays with them. you can pet her even while she's eating or sitting with a treat in her mouth. But a grown man on a 3+foot tall bike sees her as a threat!?

Personally I think responsible pet owners keep their pets in their yard. Pretty easy to install an invisible fence if you don't want to keep them on a leash. It's for their protection as well as respecting other people. Some people are afraid of dogs, even small ones. It's not really for you to judge that it should be ok for him to have to deal with an obnoxious barking dog that chases him every time he wants to take a bike ride.

It makes perfect sense to me. Let's say your weenie dog chases this cat on his bike, and he gets spooked, and ends up riding into the street and getting hit by a car. Guess whose door the Cops are knocking on next? Also, you can kiss your assets goodbye, because if the guy doesn't live, his family will sue the shit out of you for negligence, and if he lives, he will sue the shit out of you. Keep your dog in the yard, or restrained, it's not that difficult, and you may find a little extra care will save you a lot of potential headache in the future.

I will agree that he could have handled it better by talking to you. But, can you honestly say that you would've done anything about it if he had? Or would you have disregarded it as the opinion of one person and told him that if he didn't like it, then he could bike elsewhere? Based on your attitude about the whole thing, I'm willing to guess that it would be more of the latter and not the former. So then you might have ended up in the same situation.

Dog is considered personal property. You should keep your personal property on your property unless the animal is on a lead and under your supervision at all times.

Honestly, just because a small dog doesn't have the physical prowess to cause severe bodily harm, they can still bug the living crap out of you. As Mr. D pointed out as well, the dog could be the start of a series of events that create something much bigger being left unsupervised.

Honestly, I would be happy that the guy didn't get off his bike and kill the dog (at least drop kick it). Since your dog was apparently unsupervised, you have NO right to bitch.
